SignUp Now!This convertor comes with 16 fin or a 17 fin could someone explain the difference besides 1.?
thx mike
It comes with a lot more stators than that. I think 14-21. Its referring to the stator design. There are a lot of other variables that determine the converter spec that should only be kept between the person spec'ing the converter and the converter builder. The pump and clearances have effects as well the stator design. If you are interested in a PTC 9.5" PM Dusty Bradford. He will take care of your needs.
In that converters stock form, before it gets transformed by PTC, Myself, or Pats, it has 15 blades in the stator. Typically adding fins in a stator lowers the stall speed, but being that is a hand built steel stator, things like fin shape, angles that the fins are placed, and fin clearances between the pump side and turbine side of the converter will all have an effect on how the converter will react to a certain combination.
PTC makes custom stators for every 9.5" they sell.
Our stators are custom made for each setup .

But the original question is what is the difference between the 16 and 17 blade stators. I just wanted to add that the stock stator in the converter core their using is 15 blades.
The difference between 16 and 17 the 17 will spool A little better .
mike what core is it?
Maybe. But mine is ideal. The one in my sig is a 16 and spools the 66 S-trim easily. It goes form zero to 20 psi in about .5 seconds on the t-brake. If he has a P-trim id definitely want the 16. The 17 may work better if its an S-trim or GTQ especially if the cam is larger than mine or the compression ratio is 8.0:1 or less on a 231. I only had about 3% slip at 134mph.
3 bolt .85 Precision. Its spools really fast on the t-brake. I played with the fuel map and it shaved about .5 seconds off the first attempt i made. A .96 4 bolt would take a lot longer even with a 66 and it would require a loose 17 blade on my application. Are we talking 3 or 4 bolt turbos? 20 psi takes about 4 seconds with my set up, so that must be 3 bolt i assume? measuring off idle with the transbrake applied.
Dusty Im asking a question.I sell ptc converters as well.I can call tomorrow and find out.Go play with someone else.
I guess you heard that, Bradford...
I keep reliving that moment, can't get it out of my mind. The only thing I heard was the sound of women rolling off a golf cart:biggrin:
