I bought this PTE-44 Turbo from Precision many years ago.I made a big mistake with swapping a Garret .63 Housing for the PTE .63 Housing.I swapped Housing's with a guy on here plus some cash for me.I don't think I have the money for a BB 6161 or BB6157 so I was thinking of going back and just looking to buy back that Precision housing. The car reacted and hit very hard with that Housing while the Garret was not that impressive on the street.I was wondering does anyone here have the PTE-44 or does mostly everybody just havea TE-44 Turbo???

If the Garrett housing "wasn't that impressive" it may have had a warped header flange and a slight leak.

The Garrett housing should spool quicker than the Precision, but the Precision will have more top end.

My TA49 went 118 mph with a garrett housing and a stock long block.

With your combo you can bolt just about any Turbo on there an it will work. I would go much larger than a 44.

Actually the Garret may have helped a bit with the spool but when on a full throttle run on the street the car went sideways when it hit full boost. The Precision Housing the car stayed straight and I really didn't notice a dramatic difference with the spool.Yeah the 44 might be a bit small but I don't have the money right now for a bigger Turbo.Hopefully down the road I will.

seems if car went sideways indicates traction loss which tells me that more power is being made

Faster spooling means that it makes more boost at lower RPM, which means it makes more low end torque than a turbo that spools slower, though the slower spooling turbo will make more HP on the top end.

Thats why I like the PTE .63 Housing a bit better. The car stayed straight while with the Garret if I didn't get off the throttle, it could have been dangerous going sideways at 40mph.Also I never heated the tire's before I did the runs on the street many years ago.My engine works more efficient with the PTE Housing probably due to my Race heads and Matching Intake manifold.

Why not do something about your traction issue and learn to drive sideways?

I don't think the car has traction issues.I think with no burn out and launching on 5lbs of boost that would be quite common.Anyway there is not much difference between the 2 housing's it just seemed that with the Precision .63 housing the car felt faster off the footbrake.

real99,it depends on your boost level, the reason you had to get your foot out with the garret was because it spools faster hitting the tire harder, the larger housings soften the bottom end.that is why your car goes straighter with the precision.you can feel the g forces cause the tire is not spinning,if your tire hooked with the garret housing you would probably feel the g forces even more.this is why combo is important.if your car is spinning the tire with the garret you can soften the hit on the tire by moving the power up by using the larger exhaust housings.generally speaking they are worth 20 horse, although i picked up 4 mph with mine;) if you have a good tire on the car and the garret doesn't blow the tire away you keep the smaller one on.

Yeah my 44 Turbo came with the PTE Housing.I sold it to someone on here plus some cash return for there Garret. It was a mistake but not to costly as compared to buying anew BB Turbo, new injector's.There is no doubt that for my engine the PTE just felt superior compared to the Garret. As far as driving around town I really couldn't notice much difference between the 2 housings.I was thinking about upgrading my converter but I really don't need to cruise with the extra 200-400 Rpm's compared to the stock 28000-3000 D5At times this might be a daily driver and with the cost of premium fuel these days It muight be overkill for a car that will only see the streets.

I run the PTE-44 turbo on my car, no conplaints. Almost at my goal of 11.5, (no desire for a roll bar with my three young boys) car driven dailey unless the weather is not dry. Even with my M/T on the back, not hard to make the tires brake loose from a 20-30mph roll.

I noticed you have the Vigilante converter. Is that the 3200 single disc?? Yeah i don't have the desire for a roll bar either(just have 2 animals to worry about) but I do worry about to much power on the street.I really don't have much interest in racing at the track but wouln't mind going once in a blue moon.

Yes, it is the single disc, I bought it to bring my 60' times down in the 1/4 mile. It is one of the reasons that the car spools so fast also.

Yeah alot of guys use the single disc for a car that see's more street duty then strip.Precision recommended this converter to me about 5 years ago.I have the stock modified 2800-3000 D5.It doesn't spool like a stocker though. The only negative I guess on the highway with the 3200 Vigilante it probably uses a bit more rpm's.

It is a lock-up converter, I don't notice any difference unless I go WOT in 1st or 2nd gear. I still have the benefit of the converter locking up on the highway. I will say the only thing that hurt my mpg is the tranny from ckperformance around town only. Because the shift points are a little higher then stock, but the more I drive it, the more I like it. The highway mpg is not effected by the converter.

Yeah that Vigilante 3200 seems like a favorite for many guys with the 44 Turbo. Its probably going to be my next upgrade along with getting back the Precision 63 Housing. Its hard to beat a 44 on the street even though the 61 BB Turbo would add fo a better timeslip but with bigger injector's.
