ok first off I'm just kinda learning about transmissions. I've always been hesitant on doing much with them outside of a shift kit install. Before I get too far into this, the trans in question is a stock brf with the sk shift kit. After a frightening hard 2-3 slip the trans developed some noise a few days later. Thanks to dave husek, he helped me figure out what was causing the noise, which ended up being the pump. TOday I picked the trans up on end with the engine hoist and let the fluid drain from the tailshaft. There looks to be A LOT of I think is clutch material in the trans. POssibly some aluminum or metal shavings also. THe tailshaft had little to no in and out play but the input side seemed to have some slop. After pulling the filter out and the lu solenoid, I pulled the pump out and found this little booger laying underneath it.

zip the pump bolts out of it and lets see how much carnage is in there...

I always thought it would be something else that would break. So I'm guessing the only way to fix this problem is a 10 vane billet?

The rings are what broke not the rotor. Hardened or billet rings in a stock pump would have prevented it.

Just bring the damn thing down here...

Hard to tell what I'm looking at when it's all broke. Sorry bob, I'm still learning after 4 hrs:confused:
 
Sorry to hear though looks fixable. When I pulled my pump I went all in and tore I down to the output shaft. Read CK's book about 10 times now. Friction sludge just like yours and found my direct steels were cooked.
 
Yeah I'm sure mine are shot. Shifts were getting soft. Ready to buy a kit and some hard parts.

The filter in the pictures fell out of the pump when you pulled it. The stock pump rings are broken. No need for a 10 vane or recommend a 10 vane without a bottom feed filter/pan combo. The shift kit you installed raised line pressure in the trans. This caused the slide to bounce at higher RPM which broke the rings. A heavy slide spring and steel rings would have stopped this from happening. This is common with shift kits that add more line pressure without upgrading the pump for higher RPM.
 
David I might have to give you a ring in the next few days to see what the plan is here. Pretty sure I can handle the rebuild if Jesse brings the parts. I still have access to the trans shop here if we forget anything, only half hour away.
