Pump body filter missing

I have pulled three pump bodies recently and none had the little filter tube in them. Is this a problem or are they missing for a reason or am I just wrong that there even suppose to be one?

There should be one, unless

the pump was converted to a non-lock up set up. The filter is there to stop debris from getting in the lock up solenoid.
