Q-jets on 3.8L V6s

Hello I am new here so this is my first post here. I read about how you can replace a computer Duel-jet carb with a computer Q-jet Carb meant for a Buick V6, my question is do you know if this would pass the smog test in NJ if this was done to a 87 Regal? thanks

This is just a speculation, but visually, probably not. Especially if there wasn't an option for a 4bbl carb (on the 87 engine). That is how the CA rule applies and if NJ applies the federal regulation to the carb, then you cannot degrade the emission control system of the engine.

Thanks for the reply, so even if it is a computer carburetor (a eQ-jet) with all the smog hookups it still would not pass?

i did it with a q jet off a 307 which had to be recalibrated but passed in nyc inspection, had a kenne bell #1 manifold and headers with dual cats, if i come across it in my parts you can have it for free.

You can use an electronic q-jet if you have a competent shop recalibrate it. You would have to use a 4.1 intake or an aftemarket intake though. An electric Q-jet from a 4.1 would probably work well even without recalibration. The 21 extra cubes wouldnt throw it out of the correction window. If you live in Cali then you have to abide by their ****ty regulations unfortunately.

When I got the car it already had a eQ-jet on it so I wanted to know if I had to change it back to a eDuel-jet :frown: , I through I would not need to do that but wanted to make sure. thanks for your help. I know NJ smog laws are not as bad as NY smog laws are so it should be okay since it still has all the smog stuff working right on it.

I used a electronic 4 barrel off a v8 307 olds, drilled out the idle adjusters and recalibrated for less cubes and 2 less cylinders - worked well.
