I have a question for the guys who installed a B&M "Pro Stick" shifter into the stock GN console. This is what I decided to get for my GN and I also got the "console overlay" kit (see picture below) from Mark at TR Custom Parts 84-87 Turbo Regals, Olds G-Body Cars, S-10 Blazers/Pickups. My question is this: Is there a way to properly install the shifter in the console so it will fit
correctly (position front to back, side to side and also correct height) with the
console kit? I'm asking this because I just got the shifter and would like to know if there's a procedure to have everything to align and look right ?
Also, when installing the console overlay kit, what should I do with the unused holes left by the removal of the stock shifter position indicator? ..Just stick the overlay on top of it (I doubt that's the right way to do it though  ...), or maybe put a thin piece of sheet metal to reinforce the area where the unused holes were and then install the overlay?.. What have you guys done?
I even asked Mark about this and he suggested that I post my questions here...
thanks,

Claude.

There are several threads in the tranny section and a good write up on GN/TType. Don't have the links for you though.

I looked on the Gn/TType site and couldn't find anything, but thanks anyway...:frown:

Anyone else can help?

I didn’t install a Pro Stick but I’m installing a Hurst lightning rods shifter so a lot of cutting will be needed on my cover plate.
As for making it lightning up it was easy with my lightning rods shifter is bolted to a plate so you can slot the holes and move it any way needed to get it in to place to raze it if needed I was just going to use a washer or too.
For the extra holes just tape a some cardboard to the back side of the original plate ware you have the holes then use double mix epoxy to fill the holes from the front when dry sand it smooth and it will be just like the holes were never there.

I am going to say , No. This is because it depends on what you mount your shifter to so you can screw it to the floor. If someone made a floor mounting plate then I would say it could be made to fit each car properly. I had to wing it and made my mount out of a piece of 2.5 x 3 inch box tubing from a frame rail. I had a heck of a time and I wish it were just a little lower so I did not have the entrance of the cable visible. Someone should make a mounting plate and this would be a bolt in app.

Thanks
Coach

send me your brackets and I will weld them like I said. PM me if needed.

Thanks guys for your replies...

My main concern now is about the console's top metal plate which will have to be trimmed for the new aftermarket shifter...What to do with the unused holes it it?...I see that you made yourself a new one, but I'd like to be able to use the factory one as I have some switches mounted into the ash tray compartment...I suppose that the guys who kept the factory top plate had to make some kind of reinforcement to block these holes before applying the overlay?...

"coach", I'll "pm" you when I'll be ready to have the transmission lever done...thanks!

here is a pic of hoe the hurst rods shifter is mounted you can see it is just an 1/8 in thick plate the the shifter is bolted to.

What is the overlay made of? I do not think you woould have to do anything. It is not ment to be weight bearing, just cosmetic. Ask Mark at TR. He sells them, so he sould know.

Thanks

I did ask Mark and he didn't know and suggested that I'd ask here...
The overlay is made of a pretty thin sheet of plastic, much like the original GM overlay. I know it's not meant to bear excessive weight but there must be a way to reinforce the original plate before applying the overlay so it won't break in the event that something would press on it (reasonably, of course... )
