I have an 84GN upgraded with the 87 CCCI module. Being cheap (my wife prefers we spend money on our son and bills for some reason), I found that an '86 Old Delta 88 has the same bracket and crank sensor as the 87GN (stole it from my Dad's rusted out hulk before he had it towed away). I've replaced (I think) almost everything else in the ignition system trying to isolate a misfire problem. I think I hooked up the wires wrong and "may" have damaged the sensor. I snipped the 84 connector from the sensor and soldered the three wires to the 86 sensor connector. What is the proper matchup?

The 86 connector has the following colors:
Black/Lt Green
Black/Dk Green
Blue/White

The 84 connector has :
Red
Green
Black

I assume the 'used' crank sensor was good because the motor ran before the '86 Olds got parked (due to "extreme" body cancer). Before replacement, I had misfires, after replacement, nothing. Is there a way to test the sensor other than asking autozone to do it?

Check the Sticky

Check the sticky(Basic Hot Air info) BFH posted. He has info on how to check the crank sensor. You need a volt meter to do this (helped me find a bad connection). I think Caspers has a wiring harness that allows you to use the 86-87 crank sensor.
