Wondering what alky/water mixture has worked for you Hotair guys/gals. 50/50? 100% alky? Denatured? Methanol?

I may be able to get some info from the alky forum every now and then, but when it comes down to it Im still kind of on my own. Our cars hook up differently than the 86/87s, and respond differently. I think that when done right, alky/water injection should have more of an impact on a hotair car than intercooled (and can yield better results than simply the addition of an intercooler). Just the fact that we hook up after the TB is a big difference. Thus I would feel much better asking you all about a fluid mixture that [you] someone who has the same configuration as me has been successful with.

Thanks.

I know I dont have the only hotair car with alky injection. Anyone care to share what alky mix they use or have used?

i ended up running 70/30 denatured/water.i experimented back and forth and that's what my car seemed to like best.

i'm gonna try methanol and klotz lube next:cool: .

Funny, my dad's IC car also ran best with 70/30. He tried everything from straight alcohol to straight water to methanol but we could run more boost with the 70/30.

I sort of doubt alky will give the same or better results than an intercooler. When running both we got the charge air temps down within 10 degrees of ambient at 23psi.

alky

My vote is for methanol. The more you can put in, the better your car will like you. Getting a pump to last has been my biggest problem. I my have found one recently.

Where should I be able to find some Methanol?
Saw some stuff at Home Depot the last time I picked up some Denatured that said Methyl-Ethyl (I think thats right) on the can. Thats not Methanol is it?
Also, a while ago I started using a bit of marvel mystery oil with the alky so hopefully I wont kill my [f150]pump (again). Would this help with the methanol, or is it just that powerfull of a "pump-killer"?

alky

A lot of bracket racer use methanol (alky). I get mine where a get my 116. I went through 3-- F150 pumps with methanol. If you are SERIOUS, I will dig out the reciept where I bought my pump. They are not cheap. Methanol is much more of a killer on parts then drug store alky.

i'm gonna run my smc pump on methanol til it takes a dump.what kind of pump are you running lee?

Thanks James. I guess I know where I can get some methanol now.
I know thats what youve been running for some time now Leeo, and obviously its been working. I know there will be some issues that will need tending to other than just dumping methanol in the reservoir. Such as the pump (as you mentioned Leeo), along with things like spark plugs/gap, etc. Would using some lube with the methanol help?
I think that any info that we [Hotair] can get from each other will definately be a benefit. I know even our cars [84/85] arent all the same, but as far as getting info on what works (and how our engine configuration reacts), they are definately more alike than a 86/87 setup is. Especially with something like alky.

Ask for Art. He is the one who helped me out. This pump comes with a 60 psi spring. He will install a 100 psi spring. The more pressure you can produce, the better the spray will atomize. My gage shows 110 psi with the nozzles spraying. (6 nozzles) (gage could be inaccurate). So far it has held up all season. I just got my car back on the road, it sat for 2 months with methanol in the system, still working fine. I use just enough Klotz lube to turn the alky a light pink.
Plug gap stays at .032 NGK-UR5
Definately must use lube!!!
This pump has the correct diaghpram and seals (buna) to handle methanol---Best of luck
Aquamist nozzles work best.

if you don't mind, how much was that pump?

pump

Some where around $120. He quoted me $ 80 on the phone, but when it came the bill was more. Yes, straight alky.

I really doubt that. Methanol is a methyl group (CH3-) and an alcohol group (-OH). No ethyl anywhere in the picture. :p

Methyl-Ethyl sounds like MEK, methyl ethyl ketone. Read the back of the container.
