I have an empty folder that I want to delete. When I try to delete it it says it cannot be deleted because it's being used by another person or program. No programs are open that I know. How do I find what is using this folder and stop it so I can get rid of this folder?
thanks

You can hit ctrl alt del and see the programs running in the background. Close them one by one and see if you can delete the directory after each program is closed. If that doesnt work, boot to safe mode or dos and delete it. Hth...Mark

You mean close one processes at a time to see if the file can be deleted? All apps are closed.

If your sure all apps are closed, I would try it in safe mode. You may need to run stinger and spybot just to make sure you don't have some funk.

Before you delete the folder I would make sure there are not hidden files in the folder. In the my computer window go to TOOLS, then choose FOLDER OPTIONS. Click on the the VIEW tab and choose "show hidden files and folders".

Now check again and see if files show up in the folder.

What I do is I basically restart the computer and then when I fire it up and try to delete, it goes away just fine.

I did a safe boot and then deleted the folder. It was empty but I couldn't get rid of it. I did get Spyhunter and found a bunch of crap that needed to go. Wonder where that came from:rolleyes:

You know what, Spyhunter is not the same as Spybot although it typically comes up the same in a web search. Spy hunter only scans your machine, but does not correct the problems unless you buy it. Spybot is free and will take care of it, so do another search and dl spybot, as you are likely still corrupt. Meanwile, boot to dos, and deltree that dir!! Edit: If your running xp, go to a dos emulator and try to del.
