I just bought an 87' Grand National and its running 14.0's stock. My whole family races and i was wondering the quickest and cheapest way to put this thing into the 12's. We we thinking of trying street slicks, a dump tube and a race chip while leaving at about 4 to 5 psi of boost. Any advice will help.

The first step you'll need to do is upgrade the fuel pump and add a hotwire kit and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. The original pump was barely enough when new. Check out www.gnttype.org for recipies on how to obtain various performance levels. Welcome aboard.

after you follow the spring cleaning
1. scan tool
2. 340 w/ hot wire
3. AFPR
4. test pipe
5. adj. actuator or bleed valve
6. tires
7. RA108
8. race gas

Get a caspers electronics fuel pump, 60 bucks, 45 GPH, which will take you into the mid 11s.

then, borrow a scan tool of some sort from some buick guys around there, or buy one for your own use(good investment)

buy a thrasher 108 race chip for 27 dollars from russ salerno on the internet or buy one used for less.

make your wastegate arm adjustable, for around 2 dollars.

make your fuel pressure regulator adjustable, i found out how to do this from searching the GNTTYPE archives i believe. doesnt cost but a few bucks i believe.

Get a dump tube and replace your cat with this.

buy or borrow some slicks (im sure you have some from your other race cars)

launch with as much boost as you can and run around 21 psi, with no knock. Ebrake launches give you a few more PSI to come off the line.

Jacob,
Have you had very much luck with the home made adjustable regulator? I have made one, but have not installed it yet? I understand they took the"How to make an adjustable fp regulator" off of GN/ttype.org, because there were some problems with them?

Well, it worked when i tried it, but i had a adjustable already. i just did this for the fun of it. to see if it worked, since i had this junk regulator laying around. it works just like the one that i bought adjustable. only problem i could see would be the screw stripping out. then you would have to get a bigger one perhaps, but if you do it right im sure it will work well for a while, then you can simply buy a used adjustable sometime or somethin for a permanent fix.

Im just tryin to give him the "quickest and cheapest" route. lol
