Now this is a far ways off, cause my T isnt ready for paint and frankly i dont have 5 grand to spend on a good paint job. But i was thinking of getting a super dark grey with a solid flat black racing stripe. and not a thin one. one that takes up 60%-75% of the hood, roof, truck. and add the blacked out headlights and GNX wheels. So my question is since i dont see ANY racing stripes. Is this a no no or Taboo in out turbo buick community.

Hey its your car do what you like, if it makes you happy having a stripe go for it.
I would never do it but...

Its not so much I want a stripe I just like the 2 tone color I guess. The contrast of it

That's a cool idea!

It will look just like my underwear, the two tone and racing stripe thing and all....... ;)

OMG, Did I just say that out loud??????:eek::eek:

do u plan on puting a vtec 4 cylinder in it with a folgers coffee can below the rear bumper?

Nope but do camaros and mustangs have vtechs....nope but they sure got racing stripes don't they smartass

Follow the body lines on the hood and continue up over the roof. Bring it onto the decklid and stop it just short of the spoiler about a inch or so...if you have one. Radius the corners on the decklid the same as you did up front on the header panel.
If you don't have a spoiler, then continue down over the decklid and stop it about an inch or so above the trim that runs along the edge.
I think it will look cool.
Don't paint the car dark dark grey, use the new Mercedes Satin Dark Gray and do your stripe Satin Black. The Satin colors look really good.
GOOGLE..."Satin Gray Mercedes" and then hit IMAGES. You will see the car. You will love the color.

So do you remember the TV show "Life" ? He had a big silver stripe on his "GN" I know you are looking for a different color combo, but I thought it looked cheesy. Maybe use that as a reference...course with a "hand made throttle box" would we expect anything less than cheesy?

Seen the car you were talking about. And have 2 counter points. 2 dark colors contrasting on each other looks nice. And my stripe will be way bigger that that. Just so this is clear my car is not a GN so its ok to paint it.

Ya that's abouth the color maybe even a shade darker. I wasn't gonna paint it just plain old grey. I just didn't know what finish to get.

Go for it. Do it your way - who's car is it? There's always someone who will choke on their Cheerios and spill all over their keyboard when confronted by difference.

I've seen a couple variations of what you're talking about. You might like these pics of a black and silver 86 GN I've seen a couple times. Very cool and very fast. IMHO this car has TASTY paint to go with NASTY performance.

Enjoy the ride.

What was the original color of the T? Grey or Black?

If you want a two tone, why not try the D84 option style... This looks very nice IMO. Personally, I'm not feelin' stripes... The D84, however, is a different thing altogether.
The ones I've seen are dark grey/light grey, dark green/light green (sage), Maroon/rosewood, dk blue/light.... Just some examples... (here's some pics I found online... I know there's more sample- just need to hunt around) WH1 is also cool and different.

I'm not feeling the 2 tone on the sides. I don't like the looks of wh1

I'm not a huge fan either... I prefer the d84's with oddball colors... Been to alot of TR shows and all the black cars get old quick... There's always a few grey and a few white and that's about it... You almost never see the odd colors much less a D84... I like my Buick because it stands out in the sea of mustangs and camaros... Not so much at a Buick event...

I understand.... I don't know I just always love racing stripes. But like I said that's a far ways off.

Do you ever see yourself selling the car? Racing stripes might be your thing but, when it comes to re-sale, it could be a deal breaker. Just a thought....

Hell I've been trying to sell for a year with it painted black. If comes down time to paint. The car will be paid off and I know I will own it for life. Trust me with the paint job I see in my head. It won't have trouble selling if I ever did.

Lots of ideas to kick around, for sure. I have had bad ideas and a few good ones. We had a D84 car repainted once. I like the attached pic but if it had not been a gray/silver D84 car I would have liked the burgandy/rosewood (or what ever it is) combo. I have only seen one of those ever! VERY sharp and maybe as rare as a sage green T.

It's not an either / or situation.

If you've decided to jump off the rails from the factory paint shemes, then anything goes.
Look at all the custom rods, racers, ricers, etc and you know it is not some crime of the century to customize "YOUR" car.
Just know, that you have reduced your potential pool of buyers should you decide to sell.

Now however, if you're looking to stay with the factory "rails"...
To me, nothing beats a well optioned WH1.
To the last detail.
Because, it is what it is.
A classy beast.

I found out later. Due to lack of homework and impulsive buy. That my car has been painted 3 times. Factory white, then burgandy and now black. So jumping off the paint rails is gone for me. But I understand an extreme paint job can damage the the cars resale value. Trust I will post pics of what I'm doing before it happens
