Radio Replacment Choice

Looking to replace the factory concert eq series radio in my 86 T Type. Want something simple to use, easy to hook up and with Bluetooth. Found a JVC model that I like buts its discontinued and only available as refurbished from the manufacture. Any recommendations?

The reason I bought the Alpine is because it pulls in FM High Def stations. There is a FM HD website that lists your local HD stations. The main station like 94.5 where I live also broadcasts different music on 94.5.1 and .2. So I thought the added stations would be nice to have. Plus I think it's a clearer signal, like HD TV stations. I don't use Pandora, blue tooth, Sirius, ipad, iPod or most of the other features. It also has 3 sets of RCA outputs to run to my amps. Then the speakers get wired to the amps. Not hard to install a basic system like I have. If you had a train set or racing set when you were a kid then you can install a basic car stereo set up.

We will see. The way things are going I might just keep what I have and buy a separate blue tooth unit for the telephone. Not liking the black plastic look of the dash filler to make up the difference between single DIN and 1.5 DIN.

I have decided I am keeping my radio and will pull it out, get it serviced and upgraded if possible. I just do not like the way the newer units looking in the dash even if they do have many more features! My biggest issues with the unit are that it seems to cut out sometimes when raising the volume and the EQ contacts need to be cleaned. That and my wonderful pwr antennae still stuck in the up position.

It was about 2 yrs ago and I think around $100. He added and aux jack for iPhone out the back that I routed to the center console between seats. He also replaced left and right channel amps and tape deck belt. It works perfect.

So now that I have decided to keep my 1986 Buick T Type factory concert system with EQ I have arrived at my next dilemma. As you all know the car currently calls for 6 speakers 2 on the rear deck (4 x 10) 2 in the doors (5.25) and smaller ones in the dash deck. When I first bought the car the rear was totally dead and I swapped out the 4 x 10's for some Kenwood KRC 6 x 9's. I also bought the same brand and model 5.25"s for the doors although they were never installed. Bottom line is that I do not like the way the rears sound as they seem muffled and too heavy on the bass. I was thinking of either going back to a better quality 4 x 10 speaker brand and would consider buying the companion front 5.25's. Any recommendations as to a particular brand and/or part number?

A 6x9 should sound better than any 4x10 you can find, unless: 1) something is wrong with the speaker. 2) something wrong with amp in head unit. 3) the sensitivity rating of the speaker is too low thus the under powered amp in the head unit is struggling to make the speaker sing (maybe that would explain the muffled sound?).

Careful when replacing the front speakers. Besides the challenge of finding ones that fit without modification, the factory speakers were 10 ohm. Most speakers now days are 4 ohm. You may be able to swap either the dash or door speakers with 4 ohm replacements but replacing both sets (in parallel) will put too much of a load on the head unit. It may work, but for how long is anyone's guess. The solution is to wire in series if you do replace the dash and door speakers with aftermarket.
