a 3 bar reads one bar in vacuum and 2 bars in boost. So it can read up to 29.4 PSI boost.
Is the 3 bar needed on a Buick system, it is my opinion it is. Some cars already have 3 bar MAP sensors installed. Example would be your using an aftermarket computer like a FAST, or have gotten rid of the MAF and converted to speed density. In those cases a 3bar would already be installed on the car and an additional one wouldnt be needed.
So the kits are sold with the 3 bar as an option in case the car doesnt have one.. neat thing is if you buy a Power Logger you can tie into the 3 bar as well and record boost levels while datalogging.

yes you need the 3 bar.
In case the boost goes higher.. then the alky kit can spray harder. Or if it drops.. it sprays less.
With a 2bar .. once it hits 14.7 PSI it no longer knows how aggressive to spray.
Now.. if you plan on running past 30 PSI.. there is a 3.5 bar
.. next step up is the 5 bar

.. next step up is the 5 bar I bought a 3 bar off ebay for $54 + shipping last summer right after I got my car, I had an overboost issue and was seeing in excess of 25psi and couldn't measure it with my stock 2 bar so I got a 3 bar to help with data logging of my issues.
The only car ever came with a 3 bar is the 1989 TTA. No other vehicle.
I wouldnt recommend buying a used sensor unless you knew the source where its coming from. I sell the sensors new for 60. Let alone developing an issue becuase of a bad sensor then wishing you didnt scimp on a critical part like this.
If you can buy one new for less than 60, your doing well. just remember shipping

I wonder who you can call at Ebay to give tech support on that part when you put it on an alky system???
I know I have spoke to Julio via phone and PM's about issues alky and otherwise. The extra dollars I spend with any of our vendors is well justified. Keep it in the Buick family.

Actually your site says $70 for a 3 bar, and most everyone else has them listed for $75-85 hence my willingness to give Ebay a shot.
Also I was wrong, it was $53.99 including shipping for the sensor.
I wonder who you can call at Ebay to give tech support on that part when you put it on an alky system???

It's a generic GM part, it's not some specialized Buick only OH MY GOD item. If I can save $25 I'm gonna save it.
When I ordered a chip, and injectors, I didn't even dream of looking on Ebay, I ordered straight from TurboTweak. When I bought rotors and calipers? I went to Oreilly's, they're generic GM parts hardly something exotic. When I ordered a fuel pump and hotwire I went straight to a board vendor so I could be sure I'd get the proper setup. MAF Translator? Board vendor of course, the MAF? Generic Impala maf, Oreillys.
Just saying I'm all for supporting a board vendor especially on those parts they SHOULD be used for (specific Buick items) there's hardly anything specific about a generic 3 bar map sensor, GM parts is GM parts. If I need "tech support" on hooking up a 3 bar map sensor, I probably should sell my car, and if it breaks? Well I guess I'll whine about that spilled milk if it spills, since it's a generic GM part I'm not overly worried about it.
Next thing you know I'll get grief for buying tires from Sams Club instead of a board vendor
Or my oil and filters from Oreilly's And when I order an Alky kit? Almost for sure gonna be a Razor's kit most likely bought straight from Razor unless someone's having a kick ass sale or something.
Gary, my point was sometimes someone trying to save a buck, one can get caught up in a mess with a part. On Ebay one has to tread with care, as descripts/sellers/shipping practices/ etc can be suspect. This is a message board and its hard through a keyboard to sometimes get thoughts.. through.
Maybe your a car has a digital dash that requires special hookups to +5 and Ground to have the sensor work properly.. this is after all technical. And hooking up the sensor backwards can damage it. Other times corrosion on terminals can hamper how a sensor works.. or.. see not every single time things happen as they would appear.
No biggie. Wish you would of called and let me compete. Compared to the price at the dealer, I believe i'm more than fair. Even at 70.00
