looking for opions on the rear seat braces. any major differences between the GNX style rear seat brace and the tube style brace kit? Im doing some interior work and figure why not install one now while i have everything out.

also if i go with the gnx brace should i weld it in or would bolting be ok?

thanks

on pontiacs where it was installed on the assembly line it was spot welded
because the brace was not part of the regal body , the gnx brace in the gnx was riveted in after it left the line

I have the Tin Man rear seat brace in mine and it came with hardware to be bolted in. Nice part !

I've read that you need to eventually weld the tube style ones too as the bolts oval out the holes over time with power. Speaking of that, I should look at mine as they have only ever been bolted in. My paint crack above the dew strip never got bigger so I figured they were doing their job.

If I had to do it ...I would use the tin man style part using big rivets or monobolts and also structural adhesive . The adhesive gives more surface area of attachment for grater rigidity. You could substitute the monobolts with bolts and washers.

Got mine from Kirban bolt in when install we tig welded the bolts in place

Received mine many years ago from Kenne Bell and torque them with nuts and bolts, something similar to Kirban Performance GNX rear seat brace.
Maybe one day I'll get them weld them.

In post #11 Dennis gives his 2 cents on all the braces he sells: http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/threads/question-about-under-hood-braces.384640/#post-3093885

Me - I get mine from the Pontiacs at the Used Auto Parts Superstore
Hell - they don't even know what to charge me for them - which is usually nothing.
I got a chuckle the other day when a guy was telling me all about the state of the art GNX rear seat brace - and I was like 'Yeah - I take them out of 1983 Parisiennes all the time" :D

Then I lift the body (just enough) on points, and weld it in.
Then also replace the bushings while I'm at it.

I liked Rick's idea of the structural adhesive.
Wonder if it is flame resistant and won't start on fire when I weld the brace in?

Thanks for the replies guys. So looks like both style braces perform about the same just depends on which one you like look of?

I got mine fro under the hood of a 70's land vessel Cadillac. Even had the correct bend in them.

I think mine were the same price.

hello people; Funny I just looked for Tin Mans web site and I can't find it. I did e mail him to find out what's up. He did have planes on making a 3.5" MA pipe for his CAI but I think he gave up on the thought.
