i am new to the turbo buick community and need help. Just rebuilt my 40k mile '87 GN and need expert advice and help. I am looking for an expert GN mechanic in the Nashville TN area. I have been to many shops and no one really knows about these GN's. I am running lots of new equipment, 206/206 Roller comp cam, lifters, stock rocker arms. 60lb injectors and chip, walbro fuel pump, 3in downpipe, aftermarket valve springs, TA headers and pypes turbo mufflers and exhaust. Stock turbo but have a 58mm precision ready to install. A couple Other things i'm sure i can't think of right now, the nut on the compressor side of the turbo has spun off twice and ended up in the cold air intake, no idea what is causing this and the car feels like it has no power.

Sounds like the turbo has failed and the wheel is contacting the housing. I would not try installing it again...
What exactly are you looking to have done?

Bryan

It has happened twice now. Got the stock turbo rebuilt, drove maybe 40 miles and the nut came off, got the turbo rebuit again and happened again just from a few miles of driving, i have no idea what is causing the turbo to do that. I would want someone to just completely look over the car because i just got it rebuilt 100 miles ago.
Thanks, J.P.

That poor turbo has seen better days. Who ever did the rebuild on it did something wrong. (Sum Ting Wong Turbo Rebuilders, maybe?). The last time I saw a compressor but come loose it caused the main shaft to snap in three pieces . in order for the but to come loose the turbine wheel needs to suddenly stop by making contact with the turbine housing. That in turn usually causes more damage. Bad bearings can cause this. Too much movement of the shaft and it'll touch.

There are a few guys in the area, I don't know how busy they are. One would be Mike E and the other we4Mateo that might be able to help. Both are very knowledgeable and good guys. You can send them a pm. There are others, but I misplaced my list. By the way, Welcome to the board Pilgrim!!!
