I recently removed my dash board and now I am curious to know how the different actuators work for the vents. It seems like some sort of vacum system. I guess more curiously I am wondering how do these systems continue to work when the car is producing boost and additionally does the venting system work when the motor isn't running?

Check valves and vacuum storage ball tank under the drivers front fender area, just follow the hose off the Y near the cruise control.

You can usually get one or two operations of the valves if the car has been run recently, within a day or so.

Factory service manual has a great diagram on how it all works.

Oh, I see.

have any of you ever had the thin underhood vacum hose break on you. I was fooling around cleaning up under the hood and one of those hose snapped. Looks like it feeds into an aparatus that used by the heater hose.

Mind you it was kind of chilly, but I didn't think this would cause a healthy hose to snap.

Any advice fore replacement. I have an idea which involves splicing in a new hose, but what if you wanted to completely replace the entire damaged hose.

Yes it can break due to cold or heat even.

It is used for both boost and vacuum, boost gauge MAP sensor or pressure switch, and the water heater valve which is a vacuum line where yours broke.

It controls the water flow into the heater core, you can use a rubber vacuum hose that fits over it and onto the water valve metal tube itself as a splice/extension.

Zip tie each end for a good snug fit.

Good luck.
