Advantages/disadvantages vs the stocker?

about a year ago i did a series of tests on those to compare them to the stock reg-------it does have some different characteristics-------i was attempting to see if i should use them or not-------to make accurate measurements i used the same tranny and set it up on a test fixture------i could change the part out in about a half hour and have it running again------i did tests with several different springs/spacers/boost vaves etc all with the stock reg vs that unit------if i can remember next time i am at the shop i will look up the data and post it------there are some things that you can do with the stock reg that you cannot do with this unit or the pressure pegs at 300+-----only thing i do remember is that when it was all done i felt i could get just as good performance from the stock unit with the right mods................RC

All I can remember is I had a pump buzz issue (regulator valve vibration) and Art Carr sent me one of those regulator valves and it cleared the problem.

That would be some good info!!I believe i pulled one of these outta a customers unit couple years ago and put a stocker back in it,I had no idea what it was.;)

spool

Couple years ago I compared this spool to a stock spool. I believe if you measure from the end down to the flange (the shoulder where the reg. spring seats) It is longer than a stock one, which would in effect make the spring stronger. Same as shimming the spring.

It also has a different orientation of the lands which will also affect pressure.

it does cure pump buzz------but there is a simple mod that can be done to the stock reg to eliminate that as well..........RC

IIRC you grind a flat on one of the lands, this gets rid of the buzz and provides full time convertor lube.

That valve was designed by Dean @ Translab. When you google him he comes up but not the valve, only some awd shift kits he made as well.He must have closed down.I saw him about a year back on the camaro forums somewhere.
