What's up with that??? The ASTG, on page 36 #8 Figure 59, says to remove, with a modified #4 easy out, and discard the case cup plug.

I did not notice the guide calling to replace this part and I did not notice a replacement for this plug in the rebuild kit. Is the trans better off without it?

TIA,

remove it

You have to remove to get out the lo reverse assembly. It has to go back in to make the seal for lo rev. There is a rubber seal on the inward side. There also should be one in the kit as it is not reusable. I hope that helps.

Where did you get your kit?

Jim

Thanks Jim; Yes it helps.

I got the kit from PTS. It is such a small part, maybe I missed it as I was looking over the kit.

The lo-Rev assembly came out with that part in place  - could this indicate a problem? A reason the trans failed?

An interesting point in the lo - Rev area is that the Rear Internal Gear easily came off the output shaft during dissambly. Chris said that gear does not need to be pressed on the output shaft since the assembly is held together with a snap ring. Although I trust the advice I get from Chris at CK Transmissions, this points to two irregularities in this area.

Did not open the kit yet but I think I see it in there.

Do I just pound it back in after installing the inner parts?

You mean after "I think" everything is right :) This will be my first trans. But with the help of people like you on this most excellent board - I predict success!

Thanks Jim,
