I bought my car new and back in the day, a Chapman Hood/Ignition Lock was the way to go as a security system. I don't use it and wondered if it is difficult to remove or should I just leave well enough alone. If anyone has any info on or removed one, please let me know if it is a big deal to do that. Thanks! Simular to the one I was thinking about. You can take it out if you want and it's not to hard. As far as it being a hinderance, if it's a cosmetic thing I'd say remove it but if not I'd say leave it. You do have to disconnect the cable but that's not a big deal and If I remember you need to get a new hood cable.
Get rid of it. Those Chapman systems were notorious for rusting inside the cable...then you couldn't open the hood. You'd have to unbolt the handle and jerk it until the hood opens (bad design). I had one on my 86 when it was new, and took it off in 88.

Thanks John, I cut off the cable and removed the hood lock portion already. The electronics are still hooked up. The folks selling one on ebay were kind enough to fax me the installation instructions so hopefully I'll be able to unhook and remove that part also. I wonder how many wires were cut & spiced to install this. Paul
