Thanks CharlieStill don't know why it's limited to 4500 but good job Adam.
Thanks Charlie
I don't know why either yet, I've got plenty of time to work the problem out though. I'll Try the Unilite distributor first though because I think it's Ignition related.
Does it seem like it's stumbling or anything Adam? What guage wire are you running to the coil?
Charlie the engine/car runs great no stumbling, no surging, no popping. pulls 12-13"hg @ idle with no fluctuation. The new Mallory coil is still an in cap HEI type. All the wiring to the distributor is oem factory and never been cut so it's still that big gauge stuff.Does it seem like it's stumbling or anything Adam? What guage wire are you running to the coil?
Hey Chuck! thanks for checking in. Your right very new comp 980 springs installed on a factory GM lc2 camshaft & lifters that is not wiped. I've read before that the stock camshaft don't rev really high but still should have no problem reaching at least 5000rpmAdam,
Are you still using the stock cam? If it is not ignition related.... then most likely the camshaft is out of steam.... I think I read somewhere in the post you did have comp 980 springs in the heads...
That's what I've read too Jesse this ones just falling short of 4600rpm's. My plug gap is .022 or .020 regardless I have it tight right now, running NGK R5673-7 I used to run NGK UR5's gapped @ .027Pretty sure the GN cam can run to 4800-5k. What are your plugs gapped to? Have you made sure this is a spark problem and not a fuel problem?

The new Pertronix HEI module I'm running is Part #D2070 and It's used with a Mallory Hei Coil Part# 29212What ignition modual is it Adam. Most of the stock replacement type don't do well over 4K or so. If this is the petronic unit I know I can find you a better one that we've used to go over 8K and never had an issue. This may be the dwell time on the modual not holding up.
I used to run that big a gap with the NGK Ur5 plugs untill I started increasing the boost and was getting popping out of the exhaust and surging. I drove the Regal to work today and I have the boost at 22-23 psi right now and there is no popping at all, this is the first time I've taken the boost over 20 with the new ignition stuff.you should be able to run a gap of .030 no problem
This is true!Well looks only get you so far:biggrin:
It's something lol. I'm taking the trans back to Lonnie for him to check out, as soon as I can remove it in the next few days.Foward drum or input shaft Adam. Sorry to hear it.

Yes very cool indeed, He is a good businessman and a good person. I removed the trans from the car this morning and it's just like when I installed it. I've got it cleaned up and ready to go back to Lonnie, now I just have to make that trip.I saw where he is either gonna warrenty it or fix it pretty cheaply. That impressed me that he will take care of it like that.
