I could be wrong but it sounds like you are getting some wicked bad valve float. DId you do springs? if so what's the seat pressure?

I put a set of Comp 980's Right out of the box last year they were new then and have little miles on them now. I did not verify the seat pressure but Comp says they are 96lbs on the seat.

Well it was sort of a random local event that I attended that had the original mobile chassis dyno I had run the car on first so I ran on it again with the new stuff this time.
Aborting all runs @ 4500rpms my best numbers:
All motor/boost. 302whp and 350wftlbs and rising
Motor/boost/100shot N20. 406.5whp and 477ftlbs and rising

Very nice! I`m officially jealous:biggrin:
Thanks Jase. don't be jealous too much, your TR looks 100 times better.

Still don't know why it's limited to 4500 but good job Adam.
Thanks Charlie
I don't know why either yet, I've got plenty of time to work the problem out though. I'll Try the Unilite distributor first though because I think it's Ignition related.

Does it seem like it's stumbling or anything Adam? What guage wire are you running to the coil?

Adam,
Are you still using the stock cam? If it is not ignition related.... then most likely the camshaft is out of steam.... I think I read somewhere in the post you did have comp 980 springs in the heads...:)

Pretty sure the GN cam can run to 4800-5k. What are your plugs gapped to? Have you made sure this is a spark problem and not a fuel problem?

Charlie the engine/car runs great no stumbling, no surging, no popping. pulls 12-13"hg @ idle with no fluctuation. The new Mallory coil is still an in cap HEI type. All the wiring to the distributor is oem factory and never been cut so it's still that big gauge stuff.

Hey Chuck! thanks for checking in. Your right very new comp 980 springs installed on a factory GM lc2 camshaft & lifters that is not wiped. I've read before that the stock camshaft don't rev really high but still should have no problem reaching at least 5000rpm

That's what I've read too Jesse this ones just falling short of 4600rpm's. My plug gap is .022 or .020 regardless I have it tight right now, running NGK R5673-7 I used to run NGK UR5's gapped @ .027
I'm quite sure this is an ignition problem but you never know. I'm sure the engine is getting plenty on fuel I keep my eye on the Wideband AFR. I did try running with a richer tune before but the same result no more revs past 4500ish.

What ignition modual is it Adam. Most of the stock replacement type don't do well over 4K or so. If this is the petronic unit I know I can find you a better one that we've used to go over 8K and never had an issue. This may be the dwell time on the modual not holding up.

The new Pertronix HEI module I'm running is Part #D2070 and It's used with a Mallory Hei Coil Part# 29212
That Hei module is the race version and is supposed to have enhanced upper rpm capabilities with a revised dwell circuit as well as more amps, and the Mallory coil is supposed to be effective to 5,500rpms.

you should be able to run a gap of .030 no problem
I used to run that big a gap with the NGK Ur5 plugs untill I started increasing the boost and was getting popping out of the exhaust and surging. I drove the Regal to work today and I have the boost at 22-23 psi right now and there is no popping at all, this is the first time I've taken the boost over 20 with the new ignition stuff.

Well looks only get you so far:biggrin:
This is true!

Well Fecal Matter!
Another setback to getting to the track for ET's. I took the Turbo Buick out to a local store yesterday morning because my normal DD was tore down, and while pulling out to leave the store I pushed the go pedal to the floor and then the the trans went for the 1-2 shift and that was it no more trans, no more gears. I surely expected the stock 7.5 diff to blow out long before this built transmission, oh well learn something else.

It's something lol. I'm taking the trans back to Lonnie for him to check out, as soon as I can remove it in the next few days.

I saw where he is either gonna warrenty it or fix it pretty cheaply. That impressed me that he will take care of it like that.

Yes very cool indeed, He is a good businessman and a good person. I removed the trans from the car this morning and it's just like when I installed it. I've got it cleaned up and ready to go back to Lonnie, now I just have to make that trip.
