Is there a "drop in" replacement aftermarket transmission crossmember for an 86 GN available on the market that will fit the stock exhaust config. etc.?

Thanks,

G Force makes boxed crossmembers for dual exhaust G bodies. But why would you need an aftermarket one? There are plenty of good used ones around.

I've seen the G Force crossmembers. I got one on my Electra. I could hardly bench-press the thing. It's more like a structural member of the car than a rear transmission support. :D It's HEAVY DUTY for sure. As for the plenty of good ones around, I haven't seen any laying around in the junkyards around here, and suppose that they wouldn't be any better than the one I have IF I found one. You can hear the rust flakes chunks rolling around in my OEM crossmember, and the mount ends are getting a little flaky "puff pastry" like.
I guess I'll just clean and paint my old one.
BTW, I assume that the GN crossmembers are just the same as the NA G-body cars?

You can find good used ones on here. Brian Weaver of G Body parts is one such source. The cross member for 83-87 Turbo Regals are unique because of the offset mounting for the trans mount, the provisions for the rubber isolators where it mounts to the frame rails AND the bend on it to accomodate the 2004r transmission. V6 G bodies had rubber isolators and offset mounting for the trans mount for vibration dampening. By comparison, a Monte SS or 442/Hurst Olds crossmember are bent the same way since they too use the 2004r, but they do not have provisions for the rubber isolators and the trans mount mounting is centered. They will however work. You just bolt the cross member solid to the frame and use the Monte/Olds trans mount. HTH.

When u switch over 2 a TH400 (heavier) I quess...

Yeah like elongating the slot in the crossmember is so difficult.
The other thing I see is guys using the HR mount which requires some modification as well. If you want a true bolt in deal for a poly mount, then get a Monte SS or Hurst Olds/442 cross member as the trans mounting tab on the cross member is centered rather than offset as GM did with a the V6 powered G bodies. Using the crossmembers allows you to use the readily available poly mounts from Energy Suspension. I am not knock HR's mount as it does work, but I am posting this as there are other cheap factory options. I am not sure why I even have to explain any of this since you didnt contribute any thing to this post.
