I have used RJC head gaskets on a couple of different 10 second turbo Buicks with great success. I had a fresh shortblock that had been stored for a few years so I dropped it off at my engine builder's to have it checked out and he went ahead and installed my new Champion Irons on the shortblock using a new set of RJC headgaskets I had ordered in. When I picked up the motor he let me know that the sealant that came with the RJC gaskets had a crack in the tube and was hardened solid. He went ahead and installed the heads using the RJC gaskets and copper coat. Copper coat is commonly used on steel shim head gaskets but I have never heard of being used on RJC gaskets. Anyone ever tried this or heard of anyone trying it? I am not opposed to pulling the heads off and getting some sealant from RJC and redoing them but thought this might have been done before and may work fine so wanted to check. Thanks!

I have used copper coat on 700 hp BBC with iron heads and steel gaskets with great success but never tried it in the little turbo motors. I would call Jason, he would know the best.

We have use copper coat spray on head gaskets over many years and had no issues on copper or steel head gaskets. :)

Never used silicone sealer on any head gaskets.

This could turn into a grand experiment. I would bet that RJC will probably suggest re-applying with the sealant that he recommends. Nick has had obvious success with the copper coat. If it were mine, I'd run it as is, but it's not my call...

Agreed, go easy but if it doesn't leak, it doesn't leak. One way to find out.

RJC are steel shim gaskets , originally they were the GM steel shims but now he makes them himself

copper-tec is my goto goo for gaskets

When we raced jr dragster I used copper coat on a copper head gasket and it leaked, then I tried halomar and finally used silicone applied with a roller( Like RJC) and it worked the best BUT I had never used copper head gaskets before:rolleyes: Been there done that nowo_O

Wanted to revisit this one-was wondering what you decided to do with this, Steve?

I think I am going to give it a try with the copper coat. I have had great success using Cometic gaskets with copper coat so hopefully I will have similar luck with the RJC's and copper coat

You should be fine. I've got copper coat on my Cometics and during a fuel hiccup they sealed up well enough to crack two pistons. When I rebuild the engine I re-copper coated the same gaskets and they're still sealing.
