I had seen a thread awhile ago talking about problems with the rjc deep oil pan. Has any one installed on lately and know if the problems have been resolved? Also how much ground clearence do you have? Pics would be awesome, thanks guys.

Here's what I did to mine on my 2in. lowered car.

1) Check your oil pump to pan clearance. Be sure to install the cork gskt while doing this!

Ideally, Oil pump clearance should be 1/4" to 1/2" from bottom of pan. I would suggest putting some saran wrap to cover the oil pick up and then apply some modeling clay / plastisene / silly putty on edge of oil pick up. Install oil pan & gskt (finger tight).....remove oil pan, then measure the compressed modeling clay....voila you have your installed measurement.

Just so you know, when I used this method to check mine with the only extension block I got (bought mine used from a member), I found my oil pump pick up clearance to be over .700".

2) While your oil pan is installed, turn the crank over several revolutions by hand with a Johnson bar making sure it turns freely with no interfernce or binding.....you want to be sure that your crank throws do not touch / scrape the pans internal baffle plate. Have heard some do . To remedy this you will need to use your hammer to dent it or remove and relocate the baffle 1/4" deeper in the pan , then weld back in place.

3) Have heard the cadmium plating on the inside of pan may flake off. Might be a good idea to media blast the inside of pan surface to eliminate this possibility.

I was lucky to find that the used oil pan I bought from a member already had the oil pan baffle lowered, was media blasted clean on the inside & was powder coated black on the outside of the pan.

Use the search button....there are a few threads on the topic.

I have always media blasted the gold pans(milodon also). Then epoxy prime and paint. Not a fan of the gold look.I also use a straight edge and measure from the oil pan rail on the block to the bottom of the pick up(record measurement)Then measure fron the pan rail to the bottom of the pan.Subtract the two and their is your clearance,no putty or mess.I like 3/8 or so.

Hey Mike...you need me to whip you up a skid plate???
I'm 2" lowered too...this is going to be an issue I think. My PTE intercooler scoop looks a little like that now.

Any one have a pic of one installed?

I'll post some pics on the weekend. However, mine barely hangs below the front frame cross member. Maybe cause I have HR PartsNstuff Poly motor mounts + transmission mount installed in my car?
These raise the engine at least 3/4" from stock.
Could be your answer?

This is what I have as well. I've scraped the pan bolt once one a VERY steep parking lot entrance. With all the big pipes though my up pipe rubs the hood liner.

Here's the way my car sits. It is not that low as it just has 2in. dropped spindles. All the rest is new GM , with stock springs and KYB shocks. I do run a small 205-60-15 front tire. I don't have any pics. of it but the pan hung down about 2ins. below the K member. The engine has a girdle and I had hit the drain plug once before this BIG bang. Heck I was just going down a asphalt side road off our freeway here at 45 and hit a big long dip in the road and when she rebouned BANG!! Drove it home as it didn't leak one drop and even though the pick up screen was laying on the bottom of the pan it had perfect oil pressure. It bent the RJC pan in so bad it even bent the pick up tube. Needless to say but it has a stock oil pan on it now. Hey Coach maybe I should skid plate it and put a RJC pan back on it?? Hee-Hee
