Looks like a very clean install!:)

If you don't mind me asking who did the work and how much did it cost??

TIA:cool:

roll bar??'s

Some comments concerning the roll bar install. Not meant to be critical, only observations.[Could be a problem at the track, with the tech insp.!!]
1. The rear braces appear to be too far below the top of the main hoop. Rules say 5". The severe bends in the bars greatly diminish the strength of the structure.
2.The seat cross brace appears too low. The bar cannot be more than 4" below the drivers shoulders, nor above them.
3. Bar must be as wide as the drivers shoulders, or within 1" of the driver's door. Appears the main hoop is well behind the seat back. Is the bar welded to the frame?? It appears too far in to be so.
4. The door bar is not at the midpoint between the shoulder and elbow. The lower end is obviously not on the frame. On a pad on the floor pan??
5. The hoop has to be padded wherever the helmet can make contact.
If the bar is "decorative", and not meant to be legal for racing, then the above observations are obviously not valid....

I make these comments in hopes others don't get into the usual "contest" w/ the "legal body" at the track....BTDT, and it's NOT fun!!

Good Luck!

Hey chuck, sounds like you know the bars pretty well.. Do you know of any good bolt ons.. I heard alston were good.

I believe all full framed cars must have roll bars welded to the frame and not bolted to meet NHRA rules:D When i was looking at those pictures i was wondering about the bars being inboard to far to land on the frame also:)

are you talking about alston racing in antioch illinois? if you are, they kick ass. they have done a couple of cars that some friends own. and i have seen many more alston race and street cars around with thier work on them. they do an awsome job, and if this si place your thinking of, dont hesitate to get work done by them. and the bar looks good, but not legal. as stated above, it just doesnt look like a IHRA, or NHRA approved bar.

I'm glad all of you THINK its not an approved NHRA bar. Maybe some of you should re-justifly your statements if I showed you a pic with me in the car. And yes it is TIG WELDED together and MIG WELDED to the frame. Just because it dosent LOOK legal dosent mean its not. I didnt post a link for some of you to criticise my chassis builder. He has over 40 years experience and has built dragsters to GT-3 cars.

I sure didnt mean to criticise you or your chassis builder:) :o
I just know a thing or two about legal bars as i had to do mine twice:mad: I do know if its chrome molly it can only be tig welded and all the things Chuck stated is true for NHRA:) Looking at the bar it cant be ontop of the frame rail and i thought the rules say it has to be welded to the top of the frame rails? Believe me even Art Morrision has put out roll bar kits that are claimed to be legal and are NOT:) You know how the tech guys at a track can turn into Barney Fife and love to bounce you out of tech for BS:mad:

Sorry but i know for a FACT you can only tig weld a CM bar but that doesnt mean you will be caught:D Also i believe if it 1 5/8 and not 1 3/4 its not legal for a bar but is legal for a cage:)

Criticize??

I don't have to "re- justify" anything.... I don't give a damn if your "chassis builder of 40 yrs" can read or not. I'm just glad I'm not having to place my safety in his hands... IMO, it's a poor design, and it's your a$$ that has to rely on it to work. I tried to be tactful when I posted and you took offense... tuff!:p :p

what Chuck said.....you "could" have some trouble at NHRA tracks....just because the builder thinks it is legal doesn't make it so, experienced or not.....all you can do is take it out to tech and see what happens!

the side bars and seat brace appear too low to me also, but I have seen a lot of marginal bars get thru

At least Chuck didnt say what the guys on the other board said:(

after showing the photos to a couple of racers the vote is "thats the gayest roll bar" <---direct quote of 2 of them.
Hope you didn't pay too much for that.
Jonathan
btw I feel honored that you copied my 5 points, now just get a second set

Wht87T .... I would look in to what there saying. I know Geno & Chuck and they both are not the type of people to "criticise " someone , they are only trying to offer you some information that my save your life one day or the headackes of tech.

Jesse

I've posted one more picture for you NHRA techs to take a look at it. I'm gonna take some pics with me in the car. The door bars come just above the elbow with me in the seat and the rear cross bar is about 2" below my shoulders. I've seen bars that are alot worse and havent had a problem at tech. Swingouts were not needed unlike some bars I've seen b/c the door bars were so high. Sometimes pictures just dont do justice.

I hope it does pass tech and you never get bounced:)
Ive been through tech at 5 or 6 tracks and then got some Ahole at a little POS track that refused me to even run....after a 4 hour tow:mad: We just didnt want you to feel the same pain we have:mad:    All it takes is some Barney Fife tech with no common sense

WHT87T

If you dont mid me asking and someone from the other board asked but i did not see a reply but how much did you pay for the roll bar?

Did they add a cross brace under the car or is it welded to the sheetmetal in the floor?
