1. P. rods hitting the head?
2. Rockers hitting the stands?
3. Rockers hitting the retainers?
4. Rockers hitting the valve covers?
5. Springs not set up correctly?
6. Idle oil PSI low?
My 218/212 was noisey.. Damn thing only went 141..

lets not leep to conclusions ,,,,how about preload ...how about oil has any body seen a difference with different viscositys.I am useing 15 40 rotella

.040 is perfect for those 853 lifters assuming that is what you have. Less will make more noise. Spring pressures look fine as well check the things Chuck listed. Some aggressive grinds do make noise, some roller rocker setups make more noise

Not "jumping" to anything....Suggestions as to possible causes. Good luck.

same cam I am running with T&D roller rockers. Mine has had ticking ever since I put it in. Tried about everything with no change but it runs like a cat with his tail on fire so I left it alone lol. Daniel Ray

With the retro-fit roller lifters, I think the lifter slide bars are making the noise. From iron to aluminum heads, new T&D's with pushrods measured, and valvetrain dead-on, Ive always had a little valvetrain noise, and hav'nt heard a car yet that did'nt make noise with these lifters. Aluminum valve covers (louder) dont help either.

I also believe that a majoraty of the noise comes from the link bar ,there should be some sort of nylon covering on these parts to absorb the ratteling
