Running rough 1st #3 not firing, now its #1

I have spent the last two months trying to get this thing going after the new bearings and headgasket. First it was #3 looking different (no heat to it) and the other were real sooty. I've got practically new everything but with different plugs and new wires it ran good and went to town and back. So I put new plugs in nkg gapped at 32 and now I'm back running a little rough and the # 1 plug looks like it is not firing and #2 and 3 look pretty good. I have switched the plug wires and plugs one time and it's still #1 looking like it's not firing. Help!~
