Hi

How do you remove those round plastic "thing-a-ma-gigs" without ruining the hood insulation?? Is there any easy way to do this??

tia.... dave

Slide two fingers under them and pull/wiggle...hope for the best...should not hurt the insulator unless you get too wild. :)

You can also used side cutters to get underneath the head of the retainers and just snip them, and then use new ones. Mark

After doing 50-60, I found some needle nose pliers with a slight bend work great and saves the insulation. It also saves you some aggrevation. The dealer normally wants $1.50 per tab but you can find them at swap meets for less. I can get aftermarket ones that are close to original.

interior trip removal tool - you can buy one from autozone for $5, works great.

GM doesn't list these tabs anymore. Just bought some this week and no part # came up, so I ordered ones for a '87 Monte. Those Chevy people don't know how lucky they are! Hood insulators are under $80 so I picked up a few while I was at it. The old ones do get frayed looking and neatness counts! I agree with Steve, the finger method works. Brian

Hi all....

I like to thank everyone that responded. I did the Steve "2 finger" method.... it took a while but it worked out fine.

Brian... is their a part# for the hood insulator!!!

thanks again.... dave

I found that Ace Hardware stocks hood insulator retainers in their hardware section that have the same dimensions as the stock ones (even have the same large head!). They run .35 ea.
