I know the reports you're speaking of regarding Wangers.. But the facts are the facts. Wanger's flukes ran 13.1 as I recall with the big mph. The one I spoke of was most definitely a 389 car.

13.4 bone stock, 389 Tri Power, '64 GTO. Believe it. I was there when he ran it.

Sorry Pronto - I've been around a lot of 'em too.
You might have been around them, but the fact is, they didn't run that fast.

Or you just happened to see the fastest stock 389 powered GTO in the world. There is just no way a stock 64, from the showroom floor, ran that fast.

Or maybe the flagman or the guy writing the slip was smoking those funny smelling cigarettes ;)

I saw a yellow one the other day, I wasn't impressed, though I wasn't entirely put off by it either. I'm trying to talk my father into buying one if he doesn't buy a Turbo Regal. He used to race a '64 back in the late '60s early '70s when he was still in CT. I'll ask him if he remembers his times and what he had done to his car.

Did you EVER see ANY bone stock 389 Tri-Power GTO run in 1964?

I did and this is what the car performed. Whether you believe it or not doesn't matter to me, the facts remain the same.

I also saw that same car pull several mid 13's weekend after weekend that summer with some high 13's due to loss of traction or driver error. 13.4 was his absolute best time on a perfect day with a perfect launch and perfect driving.

Have a great day.

I wish they had Drag rads back in 77.
That 14.3 was smoking thru 1st & part of 2nd.

Just guessing but today my GTO would probably have run a 13.8.

PONTIAC TWEAKED & THOSE MAGAZINES rigged those times.

AS for today's Cav I mean GTO it probably has & will out run the old goats. IT FUXKING SHOULD with todays technology & Cost.

Just saw a GTO on Base and I have to say I like it. It does have the distinct Pontiac front end and that is about the only thing I do not like about it. O' I did not like the Bright Yellow of the car I saw....

Didn't see a 64 run in 64 as I wasn't around yet :) But I was naive when I was kid and believed things were stock when people told me when in fact was modded.

Here's an interesting article about 4 GTO's and the power they make. Only the 389 and new one are the stock ones though. Kind of hard for a stock 389 to run the numbers you saw with that power.

Saw a black one on the road the other day and if you closed your eyes it seemed like a nice car. The guy was getting on it and the exhaust note was perfect. Just too bad it looks like a Cavalier.

On the other hand, I think we should be thankful that GM is at least making some high performance cars still, even if it is from Australia. Is it a GTO? That will always be debatable. Was the 74 GTO REALLY a GTO?

Both my wife & son had something to say when the pontiac commercial came on.

My wife hates cars but she said it doesn't look like a gto.

My Son AKA ricer in training said too bad they didn't make it look
like your GTO's dad. He said it needed a meaner front end, scoops, & body style.

I agree with boy ricer on the looks. He came back to say the 05 STANG looks like the old stang.. WE BOTH AGREED.

If I was to be given an 05 GTO & 05 STANG
I would be a turncoat just on the looks!
Sorry GM as much as I have loved you in the past you just do every thing half azzed.

At this point I haven't see the any pics of the '05 GTO so I think I'll wait on commenting on which is better. I hope they improve the looks of the GTO. From that link it's obvious that the 04 GTO got the goods. All stock it bettered the bigger and modded Pontiac engines for the dyno #.

Ok, I cant remember if its the Gran Prix or the Grand Am but mixing cars gets teh GTO...

Take a Mid 90's Mustang and mate it with a Cavilier to get the back end. Use its offspring to ram into the Prix or the Am and WHAMMO! you get the GTO.

From a distance it looks like a honda from the back.
