Screen on intercooler scoop...remove?

I was told by one of the local guys to pull out the screen to the intercooler scoop.
Any problems with debris entering the scoop and dinging up the fins on the cooler?

Put it in a frame and hang it in your garage. It has to be one of the few remaining screens in existance!

It's an air flow restriction. I haven't had one on in years. No problems.
