I dont have the tape that marks off 25 degrees that came with my caspers cam sensor tool anymore i wanted to know is there an easy way to do this without it.

Its about 1.45 inches.

while not critical, you might as well be accurate when doing this.

you can measure 1.45 inches, or do it this way.

get the engine to TDC on #1 compression.

use a pencil or something and make a mark on the balancer at the 10 degree spot.

now rotate the engine until that mark is at 0

now make a mark on the balancer at the 15 degree spot

now rotate the engine until this mark is at 0.

your engine is now at 25 degrees ATDC, which is where to time your cam sensor.

now using a caspers cam sensor tool, a voltmeter, or the CAM led in the TR6 box, rotate the cam sensor clockwise until the LED goes OFF (voltmeter goes to >5 v)

then rotate the cam sensor back counter clockwise until the LED goes ON (voltmeter goes to near zero). and tighten the sensor hold-down bolt.

its a good idea to remove the cap on the cam sensor and make sure the trigger wheel is not loose, and there is not too much shaft play.

A easy trick to rotate the engine if you have a SLIC in teh way and don't want to tug on the converter if the shield is in the way, I put a socket on the alternator to turn mine over for a few degrees. Key off of course.

X2 with the spark plugs removed. I did this a few days ago for the first time, it was pretty simple. I measured 1.45 to the left of the original timing mark, took a piece of an old hack saw blade and made a few passes on the balancer to make a small groove. Took some white paint and filled the groove up and wiped the excess off to create a line. Then rotated the engine using a socket on the alternator as mentioned above until the new mark was at zero. When installing the cam sensor I lubed up the O-ring with a little oil first to make it slide in easier . You might have to rotate the oil pump shaft a little bit counter clockwise, with a long regular screw driver, so the shaft will line up with the slot on the bottom of the cam sensor shaft. It fell into place with very little effort. Then I rotated the cam sensor clockwise until the light on the Casper cam sensor tool went out, then counter clockwise until the light came on , then tighten up the cam sensor bolt. The motor started right up and runs good, if I can do it anyone can with the proper tools. Just make sure when you install the cam sensor the window on the ring is facing towards driver side at about 4 o'clock when looking at it from the front of the car. Hope this helps.

No need to remove the plugs. But if you turn the alternator the wrong way the belt will slip.
