I took off my turbo bell this morning, and started to move my compressor wheel.

Things I found with it:
One fin is bent up a little bit, not much, maybe 1/4" or so.
With my finger alone, I can move it up and down and side to side.

I asked my brother and his friend if they saw the same thing, and they stood at the edge of my car (about 2 1/2 ft away) and both said they could see it moving up and down, and side to side.

I heard it scrape once, when I first started to move it, but that was the only time, I didnt hear it scrape after that.

Does this mean I should be looking to get a new turbo sometime soon?

I forgot to mention my boost flutters from 15-17-18 psi at WOT. Sometimes it will stay, but most often it goes 15-17-15-17 back and forth.

If you wanted to still run the same turbo, you can just get it rebuilt. It will cost you about 75% of a completely new turbo.

Rebuilt turbos now days are just as good as brand new ones.

What turbo are you looking at getting?

if a wheel is bent or broken, do not run the turbo! It may be too much of an inbalance. Wheel may go to pieces/rub housing/destroy bearings. crack will grow, blade may go into motor. Not good.

same boat as marley here...lots of in/out play and can damn near touch the sides of the housing with the blades...not to mention the oil in the tb and up pipe....i'm thinking based on recommendations of either a ta-49 or te-44..dunno if I can go "bigger" based on my combo

I'm looking heavily into a TE-44. Toying..*toying* the idea of a TE-60, simply because I can get it for the same price.

The ONLY reason I thought of a 60 was because most of my races are from a roll, where I am at about 2-3k already, so the lag would be minimal. I know for track times it'll get some lag, but once it hits, its "all good."

Plus it'll flow more at 15psi than a 44, so I can be a*wee* bit faster everyday..until alky arrives.

Most likely a 44, but if that little voice in my head gets his way... itll be a 60.

exactly!!! have posted and pm'd many people and think that the 44 may be the way to go..dont have a stock unit now, so no worries about elbows or actuators(it's "newer')...That is of course, my lil voice takes over and says to grab a 60 or 61...everytime i fix one thing, something else goes south..should have never looked at the turbo...LOL..Keep us posted on your choice!!

Get a TE-60or TE61! I have had a 44 before, and the 60/61 is alot better! You will never regret it. I get insta-boost with a good Art Carr nonlock-up 3000stall, and can blow tires from a roll on WOT (DOT drag tires!). 27psi is no problem with a TE-61. Same price, more power, I see no extra lag.

That's what I'm looking for...a lil show to compliment the go !! I see you have the 009's too..excellent...nothing wrong with a lil tire shredding !!!! Thanks for the input...Now, who to buy from !!!! ;)

sorry if I hijacked yor thread marley!! seemed to apply to me as well...jb

I run a TA61 with the stock convertor and also run 009's.The top end charge is incredible and the lag isnt bad at all. HTH

I got a new one built from John Craig thru Ron's custom Performance in NJ, very very good price, no core charge! Check out his 7th shooter, a good idea with BIG boost.

I'm thinking a TE60, since the TA's arent the same price.

Arent they both the same, the TE and TA, just a small difference in the bells, or something?

Forget the TA, go with a TE-61, Sweet turbo! Great price, not some $1200 turbo.

This is with a stock converter though.. So a 61 will be streching it.
