shifter cable keeps braking

I have gone threw 4 shifter cables in 3 days. The cables just keep pulling apart up by the shifter lever . I put it the same way I took the original one off. any suggestions will help.

One of my friends had this problem in the mainland. His grounding straps were all broken and it was grounding through thr shifter cable from the body to the trans. Don't ask me how or why, but he went through 2 cables with-in a week, and found it arcing while replacing it the third time. Just for thought.

Are you using GM cables or inexpensive, aftermarket replacements?
