My father in law has a 66 327/350hp 4 speed vette original that has sidepipes and wants to know if there is a way to quiet them down a bit without sacrificing original looks. I told him turbo..lol. I know there has to be a site for this but I can usually get the answer here. Thanks for any help.

stuff the pipes w/ steel wool :D
I'm going to do that so the BMW will pass inspection

I had a 71 454 with side's and man was it loud:biggrin:

My father has 67 327/350HP 4SPD w/o side pipes and it's reasonably quiet. Side pipes or not though Corvettes of those years aren't supposed to be smooth and quiet, isn't that what's so cool about them? ;)

Thats what I told him but for some reason he thinks they are off road pipes for racing. Which I cant believe as the car is so original that those pipes have to be also. Who am I thou? If it isnt the noise its something else. I told him shut up and keep looking at my taillights.lol

I had a '66 Sting Ray Roadster 327/300 with the factory side pipes (owned it for 12 years and sold it in 1994) so I know what you are saying. Mine didn't bother me until around 70 mph on the open road in 4th gear when they really started getting loud!

Maybe new pipes? Sounds like they are the originals. You know the "chambered" OEM style. Smooth pipes with the crimps every 10 inches or so to hold the fiberglass in. It's been awhile since I looked but the repro's used to have better stuffing anyway.

I like the sound of those motors(SBC and BBC) with those pipes. Its better than a new Z/06 IMO.
