... could be something as simple as the intake gasket leaking from the water jacket, into an intake port or into the lifter valley... They had used black RTV silicone, and it had lost its bond everywhere...which is what happens with black RTV anytime oil comes in contact with it. Use Permatex "the right stuff"...NEVER use RTV. It simply doesnt bond worth a crap...

Do you know if it was the older, "standard" black, or the newer Permatex Ultra-black ?
Ultra-black lists some impressive specs, and is specifically claimed to be coolant- & oil-resistant if applied to CLEAN metal surfaces.
