Greetings all,

Here is a good one!

I changed the oil today, All I did was cocked the wheels one way (engine off) so I can get at the drain plug. ECU unplugged. Did the usual changed the filter … Install the drain plug filled it with oil, turned it over (ECU still disconnected) to prime the engine. Turned over slow grinding like noise and then sized up.

Was running great before the oil change. There was a small chuck of metal (no bigger than a grain of sand on the magnetic plug (I will take pictures tomorrow at work), can tell what it is from, looks like a solder blob.

I don’t know if the oil pump took a dump, but it will not turn over the started will not budge it, just clicks and the lights go dim, so the starter is getting power.

I did not do anything, this is what ticks me off, and I changed the oil. So I guess it goes up on blocks, unstick the starter and go from there.

Ran out of daylight , I try moving the intercooler fan by hand , but it would not move.

Not gonna move by hand.

If you remove the fan you will find the crank bolt. 28mm I think. (Or soemthing really close). You'll need a big ratchet too. Easier if you remove plugs but not necessary.

I don't think your engine is just gonna sieze up by changing oil even if it is a TR.

Probably an issue with the starter. Make sure all the wires, especially grounds are tight.

Don't worry this is a common occurance. Fix one thing and another completely unrelated thing will occur at the same time... Ask me how I know.

Almost sounds as if the starter might have taken a dump. Is the starter gear stuck out? Is it locked up against the fly wheel? I'm sure your motor isn't locked up

Sounds like a good opportunity to "upgrade" to a mini starter. Light and easy to install. I love mine.

Starter is new (4 month old) , But I would be pleasantly surprised if that was all . But i am 99.9999 % sure this is not good.

What makes me think it is internal is the small chuck of metal on the plug's magnet. I am looking at it right now , it is a about .025" in diameter if that big.

what cam chain is in it? i hope its not a double roller with the tensioner still installed

Well,

Took the afternoon off. Pulled the intercooler and intercooler fan put the breaker bar on the crank pulley and it turns over and the cam position sensor is moving. So it very well could be the starter. Have to jack the car up to get at it.

Update later today

Lights dim slow starter.

No one mentioned checking the battery. My bet is it may have taken a dump on you.

+1 I was going to mention the battery too. Maybe something was still plugged in and drained the battery since the last time it was parked. Something simple to check at least....
