Which is better the PTE or the one TR custom parts offers. Does anyone have experience with these as far as flow and fit? Since I’m already using alky would the new ic produce noticeable power?

Thanks
Chad

i got the same one that mark has just bought it from archie at gn1 and i love this unit. it all depends on your funds. one is china and the other is U.S.

I have the one Mark Hueffman sold a couple of years ago...not sure if it's the same one he is currently selling. Had to do some minor tweaking to get it to fit. All in all...a nice unit.

I am installing on of Marks(GN1 performance) today. I will report back.

The Precision fits perfect! I like it but its more $$. They also supply all hoses & clamps! Plus 2 hoses & extra clamp for the TB in a 3" & a 3"- 2 1/2" for a stock TB The intake shield is also very nice. More $$ but more parts included so its really a drop in unit. I like Marks stuff too & use Lots of his goodies but for this I went Precision.

My opinion..

The install is done. It's supposed to be a polished unit..was about 80% complete. Bracket was polished on the bottom only. I was debating on painting it black. This made the decision a no brainer. The core was painted silver and overspray was all over the sides. Like I said it's black now.

Took off the shround and the screws were so tight some off them stripped. Off to Lowes to get some hex heads instead of phillips. There were burs on all of the holes drilled were the shroud goes on the IC and the bottom was drilled slightly crooked and bolted up as is resulting in a slight bend. I deburd the holes left the alignment alone, can only be seen under the car.

I didn't get the correct hose from the turbo to IC,just 3 hoses the same size. I reused my hose from the duttneck, problem solved.

The install:

Bracket was completely screwed up. Angles were all wrong. Took it off compared to my stocker and started bending. Got it close enough. If you don't mind cuting up you stocker that would be the route to go. I want to be able to put it back *IF* I ever want too. There is no excuse for the bracket, maybe I got a bad one?

Got it in and bolted up,looks good. You must reverse the frame braces if you have them. I did and they clear pretty well. My engine is a little high on the driver side. The IC is a little close to the sway bar and the brace. It may rub or rattle. I won't know until I fire it up. Shroud is barely touching the radiator support. Maybe my aftermarket motor mounts.

Overall not a bad unit for the price, but the bracket needs some help.

I have some pics I'll put up tonite. I should have it finished and tested by then. Now I am waiting on paint to dry.

wow the one i got from archie was mint all polished and the fitment was perfect. the screws werent in the shroud or intercooler had to do all thoswe myself. i wonder if yours was a regifted one that someone installed before. as for the frame braces i had to do the same and also i installed 3/8 inch spacer in the top and bottom of the driverside bracket to bring the intercooler out more so it was away from the braces. the passener brace fit perfect. all in all it is a nice piece

Wow Steve lots of good info. I’m curious as to how the test drive goes?

Also Brian did you have alky prior to adding the IC? Did the IC make a noticeable difference?

Thanks again.
Chad

I'll probably be in the market for a new SLIC sometime later this season. Does anyone know if the PTE unit will fit with a 36mm swaybar and frame braces?

I dont want to go to a front mount because I'd have to completely redo my external coolers...

Just thought I'd ask. Didnt mean to highjack the thread...

yes i had alky prior to ic i had a duttneck and ta-49 i went 11.60 with a 1.60 60' on 25 psi and added the stretch and went 11.80 with a 1.9 60' on 23 psi
that would have been a 11.35 to 11.40 if i got a 1.60 60' so i would say yes a big difference

Yeah that bracket was way off. Maybe it was regifted one,had some small scuffs scratches like somebody had messed with it....LOL...it black now can't tell anymore.

Test drive was awesome, cars spools a lot faster. Drives like a stocker until you hit it then hold on. About 22 psi with alky and a TE60 2800 PTC,spool is almost instant. Way too much fun for the street.....gotta get some drag radials. Hopefully I can stay out of trouble.

pics

Here are some pics....

It maybe my car but I found the uppipe needed about 1 more inch of a slightly longer hose.

I had to bend mine at the bolt where it bolts to the block, and bend it some more when it bolts to the IC.

Turbo is a TE60

I shimmed mine with washers until it was perpendicular to the IC fan. I also had to trim some of the shroud away from the swaybar...it was making contact with it and giving off false KR.

nice job look awesome black. is it hitting the braces if so try shimming out with washer on the driverside bracket on the alternator bolt and the lower timing cover stud

Right now it appears to be good,I am not picking up any false KR...only wheel spin:D . It is a little close to the sway bar but I want give it sometime and see if it leaves a mark when the motor twists. I rest I have clearence.
