Sliding into gear

I'm sure I know the answer, but curious what others say. My trans shifts nice & firm, almost harsh at part throttle, but 3/4-WOT it slides into 2nd & 3rd.

It's not flaring, but just slushy under full power. I'm pretty sure it's one or two good pulls from going kaput.

It's only got about 5,000 miles on a fresh rebuild, but I don't know the specs (previous owner hsd it rebuilt) so I'm guessing stock rebuild. I'm making 11 second power ( see sig )

Am I looking at a new tranny in the near future?

At least an overhaul with some new clutches. Once they get slippery they don't get better. You might look into a larger servo if you are still using the stock one. And some mods to get the pressure up to clamp the clutches to prevent slip.

Ok. I did forget to add, it has a B&M shift kit & a .500 boost valve.

I'm sure it's the stock servo.

Have you taken pressures with a gauge to see where you are?
Are you planning to have it built or doing it yourself?

No I haven't taken pressure readings.

Sounds like the issue I had. My boost valve was stuck in the bore, was crisp under part throttle but under increasing throttle the pressure would not go up. It did cost me the 2 nd gear band in the process. Check pressures if you can, drop the pan and have a look for any signs of friction material, I had a low roller clutch lose it's lining which cost me a fantastic working trans. See if the boost valve is stuck, doesn't take much debris to do it. If you get lucky and this is the case 9everything works as it should after) install an inline filter.

Have you tried manual shifting it under power to see how it shifts 2-3? Do you have a transcooler installed? What converter are you using? Stock? The B&M shift kit is good, it just needs a few mods to make it work better when being driven. The stock BR servo will work well into the tens when setup correctly. Checking the pan for debris and getting line pressure readings are a good place to start. Any question feel free to contact me.
