So I bought the car with this smc alky kit and am trying to understand it... it has two adjustable plastic screws...top says "start" bottom says "max"..I'm assuming the screw pointing at the numbers(0-20) is where it starts to spray...but how much until it hits "max"?...Is the only way to adjust the amout by changing out the nozzle? I searched a and found one thread started on this in 2002 or 2003 but I dont think it was the same one or the person never got instructions or any info.....

Is your kit the non-progressive unit? Do you have pics?
My SMC kit is an older non progressive type. I believe the top knob is amount of alky sprayed and the bottom is the spray on point or the point it's activated based on amount of boost.

is there a way to scrap that one and go to the unit you have?

Yours is actually the newer more current progressive type unit. Are you having problems with getting your air/fuel ratio correct?
Or is the unit functioning weird? Maybe you would have better luck getting a kit from alky control. Julio/Razor is still in business and has great customer service. SMC is no longer in the biz, so it makes getting parts or help with his unit more difficult. When mine craps out, I'm going with the Alky control system.

I had that kit prior to my razor kit. You have it right. The first knob is psi of pump turn on, the second controls when max voltage is put to the pump. Lower settings makes it max out sooner so more alky, a higher setting keeps the max output above what you're running for boost so thus less alky at any certain boost level. That kit has a built in 2bar map though so it's not reading boost over 15psi anyway.

Basically set your turn on then lower max output by raising the max setting and vice versa. Seems counter intuitive; maybe that's why Steve went mia.

Af/ and I need some instructions so I can fully understand it and how it works

Ok awesome thanks for the info...so after15 it's pretty much max voltage to the pump?

LMAO! Your 100% right! Now wonder when Bison was tuning my car, when he turned it up. The alky pressure went down o_O Yhen when we turned it lower....the pressure went up o_O WTF! lol...thanks for the info..But its all good now. I have a duel nozzle from Julio getting ready to be installed by Billy T :D Then its back to Bison so we can turn up the boost on this 70 dbb and see the numbers :p

No, the max voltage is hit when the max setting is set to a low number and boost goes above that number. The MAP sensor built into the box is a 2bar which only reads up to 15psi positive pressure, and 15psi vacuum, so the settings on the box going to 20 are a misnomer. What determines if max voltage is output to the pump is boost being over whatever the max setting is set to as that is the boost level that maximum voltage is achieved. Like I said earlier, it's counter intuitive but I understand the logic he was going after. Razor's kit works the same and the curve variation is limitless with both; but Razor's kit measures boost to nearly 30psi and his has three adjustments instead of just the two with SMC. The initial setting in Razor's kit is the only difference though. The gain setting and turn on setting are the same as the max and on settings in SMC, but the smc just works the gain backwards instead of forward. That's why King Kong had the experience he did when Bison tuned his car.

Wow. Sounds like I need to switch to razors kit lol

So...We4Mateo...Let me ask you a question? When my car was on the dyno w/ Bison..We could watch the pressure gage for the alky. Being that its under the hood i can't see it ofcourse while driving. Since the cut-off for the 2 bar map is set at 15lbs of boost. Until Billy T swaps out my smc kit for my duel Alky kit....What setting do u think on my SMC kit will give me the most alky outta my pump w/ my boost at its lowest setting of 18-19lbs?

If you set the max setting to 15, than anything over that will be max voltage to the pump. I ran 22psi on a stock turbo with my smc kit. Can't remember the settings though. I think I turned on @ 8psi and adjusted the max setting down until all knock was gone. The smc pump is only good to 110psi though when new, 80psi as mine was falling off, so I switched to Razor's monster pump and now run close to 30psi boost on a TE44 with zero knock; even when I lock the converter and really pull the motor down, no knock. My smc kit would not have properly supported my current power level, roughly 450rwhp. You basically need to turn the max setting down to spray more alky, hopefully your pump is still up to the task.

Thanks i'll try that, But no worries im not crazy lol...I no i have to swap to my Alky kit before the spring hits...When we were on the dyno the most we got outta the smc pump was 100lbs....Maybe now i can get a tad bit more..who knows...But as long as i don't turn up the boost i have a 0 knock tune from Bison at 18lbs making 515rwhp w/ CPT70 BB turbo...Once i get a couple more goodies to install, Billy T's gonna make all the changes at the same time...Easier for him, and my cars downtime is minimum ;) keep you posted on new #'s when the next mission of mercy is complete...Thanks again for your help

Man you have a LOT to look forward to!! Happy spooling
Yeah Buddy! Thanks Phil_Jordan....I can't wait to able to cut this beast loose 4real lol  Keep u posted...It won't be long now! Spring is coming  I have lots goodies that go w/the Stroker motor to get the power i have...Along with SHALLOW POCKETS $$$ lol... But if you asked me would i do it all over, and still have this money pit? I would say" HELL YEAH" Lmao!!! Keep Boosting Baby!
