This statement is NOT towards ANY part(s) or vendors, it is a general rule of thumb towards stress reduction.

But . . . . "Seriously Dude", we understand your frustration and are sure there is a very simple explanation for your problem but . . . to make life easier, you must accept the following;

No matter how much $$$ you spend on parts, it shall be the sole responsibility of the “builder” to ensure the quality of the purchased parts are within the acceptable and desired standards for the application, PERIOD! The “old days” of “expected quality resulting from individual pride” are gone.

Once you accept this as a rule, life will be a lot less stressful since it will be easier to deal with "any and all parts related issue(s)".
If you have to take a brand new part and modifiy/weld/cut/grind/customize it to fit, . . . . . . so be it. That is "Hot rodding" and all part of the game.
After all, your expectations are too high and you may need to LOWER your expectations. :p

That is a pretty specific statement to not be aimed at one particular person...

but I disagree. If I buy a part from a vendor that says it will fit with my SPECIFIC application..it either fits or I am going to return it. If I buy a part for ANY application..then yeah..gonna have to make it fit

hello; I agree with (made for a specific application) but it seems any thing you buy needs a little some thing to make it work for you. But if you have to get new brackets made or relocate holes then it's going back. That's for product quality also if I don't like it it's going back. We are the consumer for what that's worth.

I agree that all parts should fit without modification. Period.
However, being on the MFRing side of things I also know first hand that my parts may not fit all applications b/c the parts they are to bolt onto may not be correct. Thus my parts may not fit as designed.
As much as "we" as customers believe all cars are made to exacting tollerances and every hole on every car is located in the exact same position, in reality this simply isn't true. So now it comes down to us MFR'ers of these aftermarket parts to take our best guess and design the parts for the majority of the cars out there.
Now, if there is an over abundant of customers having issues with an aftermarket part then that company, IMO, has the responsibility to look into their design and see if it can be improved upon. If they don't then the customer should send the part back.
MFR's could make the parts extra sloppy so they fit every single vehicle out there, but then the quality of the product is (or is seemed to be) diminished and parts won't be sold because they feel cheap.

I say if you don't like the way parts fit then send the parts back. If you like the parts then support the MFR by telling people how pleased you are with it.
In addition, give the MFR feedback! I prefer feedback good or bad b/c this helps me achieve my statement above if I can: "I agree that all parts should fit without modification. Period."

well as far as I am concerned if it comes in a box its a "make it fit" .. Been around all sorts of car junk for way to many years. :p Only part that actually was a straight bolt in with NO problems was a 9" Ford rear end from "Currie Enterprises" for my TTA in the early 90s
Another thing ya have to remember is that a LOT of people have NO business working on their cars that have NO IDEA what the hell they are doin !! The stuff I have seen over the years with Buick stuff is unreal !!

The Buick stuff is just the tip of the iceberg Dan. I still remember the guy that couldn't get his dodge started, so he did a little wiring work. He got it to run but had to take the negative wire off the battery to kill it. He called me because he couldn't figer out why his car caught on fire after he reconnected the negative and went into the house to get a beer. No, I'm not kidding.

I haven't had any fitment troubles, then again, I have a 4 inch $50 electric makita cutoff wheel from home depot that gets used from time to time. Like Clark Griswold, a chainsaw and fixing the newel post...

Edit - unless there is nothing to trim. One time I ordered a up pipe from TR Custom Parts, it was perfect on my stock GN, however a little too short on each end for my T with its slightly unique geometry of the CAS V4 etc so it didn't have any room to clamp to, but with his awesome customer service he sent me another with another inch on each end.

Seems to me if the part is specific for a 1987 GN then it should fit with no modifications needed. Holes should line up like factory. If not, it goes back.
