There's a possibility that I may be moving to Austin and I'd like to know more about the area. Don't know much about it and will find out if this is going to happen but knowledge is power and it will help me make up my mind if this is something I want to do. Thanks.

I'm not sure you are liberal enough for Austin. Any place that has t shirts that have "Keep Austin Weird" printed on them is a good place to visit but not to live imo.
Kidding aside I'm sure if there is gainful employment you should at least look into it. I've just been down there to take state licensing tests for different trades ive done. Other than that I try to avoid it at rush hour when we go to San Antonio as 35 traffic blows.

Austin is fun, but..... Research suburbs and find something affordable. Take a look at house prices in the city, but make sure you are sitting down first. $600,000-$800,000 for a 1 bed room 600 sq ft shotgun house is normal.
