well its been problem after problem, break after break ect with the stock shortblock 3.8 turbo i have in my regal now. and just recently the 2000 mile pte billet 6262 started to puff out smoke after going part throttle/WOT. im at a cross roads as too what i wanna do, fix the problematic issues with my current setup with is about 1200 out of pocket, or part everything out inthe drivetrain and start fresh with a bbc buid i have sitting in the wings. its set to be 520 inches with efi and will take about 6000 cash to finish.

thoughts?

Not being mean here but do you really want to go with a cheby? I could see an LS engine but a bbc? How hard would it be to figure out what's going on with the current set up?

whats wrong with a bbc? and why is a lsx any better? they are both basicly chevy and i figure if im gonna go , might as well go big and eventually put a 91/96 pte on it.

Weight for one thing Russ. An LS based engine weighs less and can produce as much or more power and still get better gas mileage. The other fact is that the heads on the LS motors are based on the Buick nascar heads that got outlawed, so at least there's some Buick design in it.

ill agree with you that the bbc will weigh in more than a ls.. but not on power production. ive never heard of a ls motor making 800-900 in na form on pump gas...that number is quite attain-able on a large displacment bbc with decent heads and even more if you are pushing 575-600 plus inches.

in the meantime just about every outlaw 10.5 racer has a motorplate big block so if anyone knows how to make power and what to use, they would

besides everyone and their mom has a ls motor swap nowadays....i just want alot of pump gas power not a trend

LOL There's a reason for that though. I also remember when dropping bbc into many different cars. Going with an engine that has more ability to make power isn't a bad thing but you also have to think about doing other displacements. A 6.0 or bigger will still give the the advantages of displacement and still develope more power. The LS bassed engine will easily make more power per CID than a conventional earlier design and still use less gas in the end.:)
