Got my little girl a kids meal at Sonic. She always wants the toy first so I hunt in the bag and the toy is some spanish to english flashcards. She's 3 years old and was thrilled. Kudo's to Sonic on this educational tool to replace the useless crap toys they usually put in there. Very forward thinking of them to know in about ten or twenty years your gonna probably have to know spanish to get a job at Sonic or anywhere else in this country. LOL :D :D :D

I think that is kind of cool. My three year old can count to 20 and knows all the basic colors in Spanish. Our kids will be growing up in a different world than we did. Many will need to have a much more diverse view on things and vocabulary to match to function well.. and to get ahead.

Yeah, once we got home, she brought them to me and we went through them all. She's on her way. I gotta get this kid excited about learning because if she doesn't get some scholarships or grants, paying for her college is gonna kill me. Was gonna start a finacial plan for her to pay for college but a finacial officer said I didn't make enough to make that worthwhile. Told me that if I had all that money in an account for her she wouldn't qualify for as many grants and scholarships. Catch 22. LOL:D :D

Great, now we've just got to get flash cards handed out around McDonald's to teach their employees ENGLISH.

THAT'S FOR DAMN SURE.

You can't talke to the people at Home Depot, McDonalds or heaven forbid, the lawn guys or anyone at a garden center in English around here (Ft Lauderdale area).

Like the joke used to be - Will the last American out of Miami (and Lauderdale) please bring the flag.

What really pisses me off is my girfriends son got married at Thanksgiving to a gal whose parents are Dominican. BUT she was born in Jersey meaning her Mom has lived in the states for about 24 years. Would you believe her mom didn't speak to us at the wedding BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T SPEAK ENGLISH? Damn, in 24 years, I sure would have just picked it up without trying.

I think the native american version of that joke in the late 1700's must have been something like.. will the last indian to get run out of south florida by a conquering english speaking white man please extinguish the camp fire.

My take is that since there is not an easy way for illegals to be a part of society, there is no way that they can participate in the education system... without getting sent packing.

Since we are all immigrants in our own special way I have a tough time coming down on others that come to America for the dream.

Maybe all the people that are so concerned about the language issues can volunteer their time to help teach them. :D

My Grandparents came from Czecheslovakia, spain, ireland, and Scotland. They all learned to speak english when they immigrated here.So can these illegal hispanics. No excuses about how we were all immigrants.I dont see signs written in Czech hanging around,or german,or gaelic(irish),or zulu or whatever else. They can be expected to do the same.Thank you,off my soapbox now.

My family came from Hamburg shortly after my mother was born, and this is exactly the argument I always make. What kind of f***ing loser does one have to be.....many come here and enjoy the money and the freedom, is it so much to ask that someone have the respect to pick up the language? For Pete's sake, my grand parents came over speaking the King's English (thee, thy, thou, etc.) rather than be just a couple more ignorant immigrants........but I suppose the sub-human ingrates waiting for work out in front of Home Depot or hustling oranges on the freeway are superior to my family and have their pride in whatever 'don't-drink-the-water' hellhole they swam out of.

So true, I could not state it better!!!!!!

Most would not go into their country and not learn the language. It is bull****....

I called a verizon supervisor over this as 411 for Spanish press 1 for English press 2. What the hell is that:mad: If anything Spanish should be 2...... a second language.

Even though i agree in immigrants having to learn the language. I don't however agree with DCEPTCN and his comments. They are not sub-human ingrates!! If you see them selling oranges by the freeways or waiting for work at Home Depot is because of necessity. I have never seen an anglo or black person selling oranges . They rather hold up a sign for spare change.!!

I am glad you cleared that up, Mr. Freedom Fighter! It's called 'rhetoric' and sometimes involves overstating things to make a certain point. If someone needs to sell crap on the side of the road out of necessity, is that the kind of guy we want immigrating? At no point was I singling out any particular race....only a particular type of person, but I'm sure the entire hispanic community appreciates your assumption that those I spoke of were them. (Note the end comment about WHATEVER country they're from.)

Make a fist and f*** it....

Now living where i live we have a ton of ppl that were not born here now me being half Puerto rican and half irish and both my parents also being born here i cant believe that ppl coming into this country for 2 days have a better car and clothes than ppl who work there whole life cant even get, and my fav has to be when they come up to me and start speaking their lang. and i say i dont speak that they have the nerve to tell me oh well you should learn it. WHHHHHHAAAAAAAT i want to kick them in the eye and said get the **** out of here:mad:

Hum??? Most likely with oranges they stole from the grove on the other side of the road. Blame it all on the politicians. If they weren't looking for votes they would have passed one of them English language admendments into the Constitution. JMO

Wouldn't that be great? It would undoubtedly be dragged through court by losers forever. It would be called the 'Leech Respect Ammendment'.
