Who makes a good set of spark plug wires for these cars.

Ok i will give my opinion on the wires i have used. The wires on my engine have been on there a few years and work great but the fit isn't perfect but i live with them. These are the MSD super conductor 8.5 mm wires red wires with gray boots.

I have also used the Bosch premium wire set from Autozone and they work as good as the MSD wires, at least this is what i have experienced on my car. And for less than $30.00 i would say they are good for the price but they are made a little too long but heck they come with a lifetime warranty.

If i was to give someone both sets of wires the MSD and the Bosch and told them to install one of the sets of wires on my engine and shut the hood. Without me knowing which wires they installed,i would not be able to tell which wires they had installed with the way the engine ran.

I would consider both of these wire sets good.

Russ Merritt makes the MSD and they are available from RJC.

Were can you get the MSD wires in black with the gray boots?

A long time ago when MSD first started selling the custom wire set for our cars they offered them in both black and red wires. But for some reason they only sell them with red wires now. The only way to get a set of MSD black wires is to make them yourself or buy them from someone who custom makes them like already mentioned. But for some reason the black wire set commands a higher price over the red wires.

I agree with the MSD wires 100%! :)

Some of these sets are still on cars from when they were first introduced years ago, and still are in excellent condition.

We usually ohm plug wires when working on a performance build, and have yet to find a better wire even after many years of service!

A common problem with most spark pug wires are the spark plug boots.

Cheap wires, and some not so cheap, have short boots and are not fastened well, and are easily torn loose when changing plugs. This is a big shinning plus for the MSD wires and even some brands costing twice as much will too easily give up the boot and connector.

I just made up a set of Taylor ThunderVolt 8.2mm (40 ohms / ft ) wires for my TR6 ignition . Buy the universal set and make them just how you want them , also get the $12 crimping tool . You can get them in red , blue , & black all with grey spark plug boots & black coil caps . Mine came out great .

This is it in a nut shell. :cool:I have friends that race and have the valve covers off every round and no other wire boot/ends stand up like the MSD.

I agree with you on boots coming loose from the wire , but that can be avoided with proper tools & or technique for removal . It's no different than pulling a cord from a wall outlet by the cord ! I've had to fix these type of failures 100's of times , be it extension cords , prox switch cable ends , robot I/O cables , & Ethernet cables . That's why I bought spark plug boot pliers and use them .
