I recently installed a new stage 1 Extreme Automatics 2004r transmission into my 80 Camaro, Is it is normal for the 3rd to 4th gear shift under light throttle to occur over 3000rpm? 1-2 shift (light throttle) occurs at about 3100rpm and shifts hard. I have a 3.08:1 rear end in my car, and to keep it in 4th gear on the highway I have to keep the rpms above 2100rpm. This equals about 135kmh...or roughly 84mph at about 2200rpm. If I go any slower it downshifts into third and brings my revs up to around 3000rpm. The transmission is a lockup unit and the torque convertor is a new 12" factory stall unit. Should it be in overdive at 100kmh (62mph) and if so, what could be causing it to want to downshift into third? Any help would be great!
