I recently installed a new stage 1 Extreme Automatics 2004r transmission into my 80 Camaro, Is it is normal for the 3rd to 4th gear shift under light throttle to occur over 3000rpm? 1-2 shift (light throttle) occurs at about 3100rpm and shifts hard. I have a 3.08:1 rear end in my car, and to keep it in 4th gear on the highway I have to keep the rpms above 2100rpm. This equals about 135kmh...or roughly 84mph at about 2200rpm. If I go any slower it downshifts into third and brings my revs up to around 3000rpm. The transmission is a lockup unit and the torque convertor is a new 12" factory stall unit. Should it be in overdive at 100kmh (62mph) and if so, what could be causing it to want to downshift into third? Any help would be great!
(carbed vortec 350 with mild cam, stage 1 EA 2004r lockup, 12" torque convertor, vacuum lockup switch, 3.08:1 rear end, 255-60r-15 rear tires)

Either your T.V. cable is adjusted too tight or the trans is calibrated for larger gears like 3.42's or larger.

Well I adjusted the TV cable 2 clicks out, and now it works way better. The geometry of my bracket and carb linkage must be off at low to part throttle. Thanks mikestertwo!

No I dont have the geometry corrector bracket, I'm going to try to make one tonight. the TV cable bracket is a factory one that mounts at the carb base. I also need to extend that to get it to line up with the carb linkage.

Sounds like a good plan Ty, these Pics may help you out on the Bracket modding.

I think that's an Eddy TV/Throttle bracket, EDL-8031.

The Holley style HLY-20-95 TV/Throttle bracket will also work with the Eddy carb, or cheaper Summit SUM-M08080 bracket. The locking Tab/Tang has to be removed for Eddy use & tacked to the side to prevent movement for best results.

Good luck with the bracket,

On a side note the speedo bullet is leaking fairly steadily (not too fast), is this a common problem?
