I am getting a hard parts list up for my trans guy to make my 2004R stand up to my mild LS3. The input shafts and forward drum both have a way of failing at my power level from what I have gathered. Is the steel billet shaft front drum that EA and CK sell the part to handle both of these issues? Or is the input shaft another animal all together? Please help me! The more I study, the more confused I get. Thanks.

They are separate parts. Input shaft and forward drum.
Keep in mind that if you plan on using your stock input shaft you will need to modify it unless you use the Scott McClay forward drum.

What input shaft is on the" billet forward drum input shaft" combo?

Look into the overdrive planet and gear

Pretty sure the input shaft connects the torque converter and the overdrive carrier.

Yea, I think I have it figured out now. The input shaft fits in the forward drum shaft. The input shaft on mine is the weaker of the two styles for GM, so add up another 300 bucks on top of the 400 buck for the billet drum setup. I sure hope the internal parts are OK when my trans guy tears it down and inspects it. Between the billet parts and the new converter, this is getting way too deep in the bank account, LOL.

Hi Bruce!! Been a long time.
I've got one of yours in my tranny! Installed way back in the 90's, and flogged it for years. It's still going strong even though the car is retired from racing. From the time it was installed I never again suffered a tranny failure, even with all the WOT converter clutch lock ups I did.

Hrmmmmmmmm...... I wonder who wrote that strengthening the 2004r bit...? Sounds like they REALLY knew what they were talking about. Personally, I think the guy is brilliant! I would listen to him....... LOL:)

Been awhile Dave, Hope all of your kinfolk are well as well as yourself. Man are we getting old or what? Dave, you realize 20 years has just blown on by. SHEESH!
