Since the NHRA rule is now 11.49 for roll bar, I figured I'd get a bigger turbo and use my PT51 for my Turbo truck project.

Right now I have 50# injectors and a 9x11 3200 stall, don't want to restall the converter, but might go bigger injectors, what size turbo? Was thinking a TE61, looks like some have had very good luck with that turbo.....With my 51, running SMC I always have the boost at 25, timing around 20°, Stock Heads. Ran my 11.87 with a bad 60', so I don't think I have that far to go.

Sounds to me like you need to get a better 60' and leave the rest alone, but if you really have to have a turbo I've never heard a bad thing about 61's...I have a PT-61 and I like it just fine with a restalled D5, normally stalls about 2800...Sure it would spool like lighting with your converter.

Dont wanna sound like I'm out drumming up business for the man ,but a cpt-65 is good turbo. Large shaft turbo combined with the 61mm wheel. 4in. inlet 2.5in. outlet. My buddy has a 3200 stall converter with it and it spools great. Has put him into the 11's on easily at 19 psi on his combo.

I'm using a BB 65 and even with the D5 it still goes very well.

Appreciate the responses, going to go to the track one last time, before the end of the season, hoping for a better 60', but our track isn't well known for traction. Would a CPT-65 work well with stock heads?

With 3200 stall I've used a TA-62 and a double ball bearing GT70 in my WE4.

Picked up 30-40 HP with the 70 on stock heads and cam.

Both are a bit overkill but worked fine even with daily driving, no boost control issues excepting when racing at altitude at LVD, had to crank the rod down 4-5 turns up there.

I'd look into the CPT-66 single ball bearing it's probably going on my GN someday from the PTE51 that's on it now with 3000 stall.

Assuming the price is reasonable enough for you.

62's are also relatively easy to find I bought mine rebuilt from Nick Micale it's my spare.

They do make a lot of air noises however, my 70 is much quiter than the 62 ever was.

Hey buddy i say just get some heads or a pte-54 other wise your not that far

now i need to keep figuring out how im going to get in the 10s

Johnny

Lots of guys have run great numbers on a stock headed small cam TE-61. With heads the 65 is a 10 sec turbo without be prepared to run lots of boost with it...

im going to stick my foot into my mouth here-

i used to hate the 50 series turbos, probably all the hype about the wheels falling to pieces, and my bad luck with a 54- turns out it was my downpipe making the noises!!!

well, here goes.

PTE 51 turbo rocks! i cant believe i said that- let me say it again
PTE 51 TURBO ROCKS AWESOME with stock heads-

OK, now that ive got your attention- here is why it rocks so well-

local kc buddy of mine has a 86 GN, with the following combo-

Heads never off stock longblock, intake not even ported-
MSD 50s, atr 3" downpipe, powerstroke intercooler, PTE 51, powerplate, 206/206 comp cam kit, 25psi of boost 27° timing.
110 octane gas
full weight street driven car-
a few weeks ago it was running 11.45 at 120, then the MAF went out-
changed to a LT1 - MAF and translator, along with the 3" downpipe
went 11.30 at 122.00 car has at least 15 passes at 122MPH
put some skinnies on it and tried to get the launches down-

1.59 sixty foot 11.08 122.45 into a head wind. all at 24-25 psi of boost-
ERIC MARSHALL CHIP
rear suspension is
stock boxed uppers and lowers, 2 air bags- snubber-

get some better tires, tune the rear suspension, keep the same turbo.

right now my car has wolfe uppers and lowers, HR PARTS N STUFF rear sway bar, and it really hooks and goes straight-
funny thing is, it has a stock turbo, intercooler and i love it!

Quick6'n'-K.C., thanks for the information, sounds like your friend has a VERY similiar combo to mine, I've never had the intake off either! (Stock cam though) What's the altitude There? I was "Lucky" to pick up my 51 when everyone was getting out of theirs, picked it up for $450! Not sure of the miles on it when I got it, but I've got over 10k miles on it, and not any problems. I guess it'll depend on what my 60' is this weekend (If the weather permits) to see what else I need to do! (My 1.8 60' was with bone stock rear suspension minus springs and bags, with the front sway bar on)

i think the altitude is 600- 900 feet? http://kcir.net/

Take my word for it, call Eric Marshall and ask for the chip he burned for Neils car in KC-
we were running another brand chip at 117, popped Erics chip in and Bingo, 120 every pass since, and gaining, yeee haaaaa!

i do believe it made a difference- mine picked up 5 MPH over someone elses, same tune-

dont take the turbo off, try it out- you can always do the suspension work over the winter-

Eric, try taking off your front sway bar.did wonders for my car.still planning on being there the 28th.can you send me a link to your track?
kevin

Hey there Kevin! The last "Scheduled" day of racing is November 28th, gates open at 10:30, although they don't open the track if the weather is cold, so I didn't get to go a few days ago:( . Since the last time at the track, I installed a line lock, UMI tubular lowers, ATR rear sway bar and removed the front sway bar, also have the soft brake shoes. *Fingers Crossed* I'll be able to launch with more than 10psi! Never been able to launch this car with any more than 3!

roc87, listen to "B-Dogg", lol. Do suspension, you got a strong combo. Hell, I cant even believe the PT51 is going 122 and change for me. I was ready to upgrade before I even got the car into the 11s, LOL. I will eventually step up to a TE61 or similar, since I have an Art Carr 9" NLU Converter sitting in the garage. I think it would make the car more fun on the street. But for now, this combo is working very very well for me. LOL Going for a 10.99999999 this Sunday.......if I can get the car to run high 1.5 60fts, itll do it.

Dang, 122 with a 51!? That's impressive! Guess I might have some more mph hiding somewhere, Maybe if it doesn't happen this year, it will next. I believe something that's holding me back is the previous owner (in addition to a drop in K&N, and a hypertech chip) Swapped the gears to 3.73's  . So, I'm almost half way through 4th at the end of the 1/4! 28" Tires should be my next upgrade! Best of luck with the 10's!
