I have a 1987 GN with 19,660 original miles on it. It is completly stock. I want to do some slight modifications to shave off a second . Maybe have it run low to mid 12's. can this be done for $1,000 or less??? If so what can I do? and where can I get the parts?

Hello and Welcome..

Check out www.gnttype.org for information on these cars.

Also do a search on this and you'll get a ton of information.

Search for "First Mod" or something like that

12's for under $1000, I think it can be done.

Good luck!

Heads up

Just a heads up, you didnt specify if you meant 12s on the street or 12s at the track. Getting 12s on the street will be a considerably harder task then at the track cause you can use slicks and race chips and race gas etc etc.

But shaving off close to a second on the street is doable for sure.

I want to modify my gn for street purpose only. currently its all stock, even the original tires. I want to spend somewhere around 1,000 dollars to get it to run in the mid 12's.

Thanks

Dont mean to bog anyone down but it might be tough to get what you are asking.

My best opinion to start with is dump the cat and stock muffler if thats what you have, get fuel pump, fuel reg, boost guage, adj wastegate, and a good set of rears. If you can get to a TR mechanic with a scan tool you're good to go with the tuning. I can tell you a 12 wont be reached on the street for your price without the tuning and a good hook.

Just freeing up the stock exhuast will make a world of difference, even on the butt dyno.

Good luck :)

Don't know but here

Don't know if you ll reach the 12's but here's a good checklist or where to start *pricesvaries
Adj FPR-100 bucks new ne where from 70-80 bucks used
Note Get BILLET
Adjustable wastegate-3bucks if ur a handyman 50-75 bucks if ur not.......
Boost gauage and holder 50 bucks
36 lb injectors bout 150-200
big neck intercooler bout 150-200 (mease performance has a good trade in price)
walbro 307, 340 or Red's XP Fuel Pump w/hotwire kit bout 130-150 bucks
Testa, Lubrant, turbotweak.com and Im sure there are other but can't remember cp chips 50-60 bucks
Scanmaster-Brand New 250-Used (if you want to take the chance 200-230 bucks)
3in dp-test pipe w/dump-350-450 (once again mease performance-terry houston can't go wrong)
Hooker Exhaust best bang for the buck about 250 w/o mufflers
ATR Rear sway bar
Block Throttle Body Coolant Lines
Sticky Tires
high-mid twelves at the track definitely
Tuning for the street hmmmmmmm:D

//...see my sig..

I don't like the idea of modifying a low milage GN but Good Luck!
