Well some of you may have seen my post before. The crank broke on my GN i just got and i'm gettin a new engine put in. The crank that was in there when he took the oil pan off is a cast crank. I was told that the crank was replaced 3 years ago when gm still made that crank, well i found out it was actually done 6 years ago. Is the stock 86 Gn crank cast or steel. The mechanic putting the new engine in said that he thinks the one in the new engine is cast and he didn't think they put steel cranks in 3.8's. My dad called the company the motor came from, because people were telling me not to buy it because it wouldn't be the right motor, but my dad talked to the techincal assistance guy and he said they'v sold quite a few of these engines without any problems from the buyers. They said that the motor was built to factory turbo engine specs with bigger crank bearings to accept all the torque. My dad didn't know to ask about the crank being steel so i figured i'd come on here and ask if it should be. The motor i got is a Gopher brand motor and is supposed to be a really good motor. It's got a 36,000 mile warranty so i dont' think there would be any problems. if anyone can give me any info just let me know
thanks
