i just purchased some "stock GM" pistons from someone, and these "stock GM" standard turbo pistons do not have the hepolite stamp on them-

actually, these pistons are totally different than the original GM pistons out of my block....
I was just wondering if GM would have done some wierd stuff and made changes to the pistons over the years.....

They look like hypers to me, but just need to know whats up with them before i yell at someone.....

hepolite

Hi,
I don't know if the hepolite trademark is displayed on the stock pistons. My only reference on this subject is through gnttype.org. They mention the hepolite name, but pictures don't show any markings.Check out the photoguide at their website.

well, the stock pistons that i just took out have hepolite stamped on the inside of the skirt.
the ones i recieved do not have the stamping on them, and look real close to the hypers i have from my 4.1 motor, nice and shiney aluminum...

wished i could be 100% positive that all GM pistons had the hepolite stamp on the inside... anyone?

GM must have used different suppliers for pistons as in my pile of them, removed from stock engines, not all have "hepolite" on them.

However, all of them do have some GM ID, like part no. cast into them and the steel reinforcing strut cast into the pins bosses..

Hey pete, hows it goin?

thanks for the link-

that pic looks just like the factory ones that i have, and has hepolite cast into the piston.

i emailed nick with some pics of 4 style pistons that i have on hand-

i really think i recieved hypers.... no GM stamping number or cast hepolite in my "new gm pistons"

i did get a decent deal on some pistons, but would NOT have purchased them if they were hypers.... i want to rebuild this motor back to OE specs and not get aftermarket pistons..

not super pissed off, but just let down AGAIN in the parts for sale section
last one was TA49 turbo with HD wastegate... we eventually recieved a stock wastegate with a crap home made rod.. some people need to do their homework before they represent a part.

Its going pretty good:D

Hope you figure out what kind of pistons you have.

My original piston has the AE logo right above the Hepolite name.

AE Piston Products Inc. is now part of Federal-Mogul. Hepolite was, most likely, a line of pistons from them.

Opposite of the AE logo is the Buick name with the GM number 25531068.

Bryan,

Seems when I decided to rebuild my engine some years back and was insisting on the HEPOLITE pistons, they were manufactured for GM way down in Australia(sp?).

HOW

i guess they are hypers, or some version of some off brand piston-

i guess i wont yell at the guy, i did get a decent deal on these pistons, but would have been happier if they were actually GM pistons with a GM part number stamped on them.

thanks for the info guys

If it makes any difference, I bought a couple of the last of the SG1 crate "109" engines in late '94. Both had the Hepolite stamped pistons.
